What an idiot Mourinho is, to think he could have signed the best wide player in the league and instead went for Willian.

Yep i will hold my hands up, for a number of reasons Townsend hasn't progressed to this point as i would have hoped and thought he would.

Willian, played well last night as he has on some other occasions as well, he's also had some poor performances.

But that's football, you have an opinion and sometimes you're proved right and sometimes you're proved wrong, on this one at this point in time I'm nearer wrong than right, however that could yet change.

Not really. Not quite as embarrassing as the "Let's all laugh at Liverpool thread" though.

Why is that thread embarrassing? It's been going for years while we've consistently and consecutively finished above them, and taken at least 3, often 4 and once or twice 6 points from them over the past half decade?

As for this thread, maybe L10 jumped the gun a touch but when he posted it Willian was barely making the Chelsea matchday squad while Townsend was being raved about as the next big thing up and down the country.

So what if a fan is optimistic and it blows up in his face, that's far better than being pessimistic and cynical. I personally think that having hope and optimism is a prerequisite of being a supporter anyway, the second you lose those then there's no real reason to care.

Nothing wrong with optimism.

I don't think the Liverpool thread nor the mind the gap stuff has anything to do with optimism though and everything to do with premature gloating. And it tends to bite you on the arse.

The most influential boss i ever had was a self made multi multi millionaire who ended up on the Forbes rich list, this was despite growing up in a poor family in the 'gorbals' in Glasgow and leaving school at 14. He taught me many many things about business and people, many of which have stuck with me through the years as I've made my way through this world and have proved to be true. I remember him saying to me one day when i was launching my first company and he was giving me some advice:

"Don't be afraid to make mistakes and get things wrong, but when you do face up to them, learn from them and accept the mistake. If you make 51 good calls out of 100 you'll do alright, not much better than that and you will do very well, but never become the man who thinks he never makes a mistake or gets anything wrong and knows everything, because he's the idiot in the room who knows nothing!"

How right he was.

As we stand at the moment in this instance I'm on the side of being wrong, I'll accept that, but let's hope things swing the other way!

Im a bit of a mix of both to be honest. I find it mad when we make these threads before we even see how things pan out, 'mind the gap' is a perfect example. I aim high but im quite realistic on how spurs stuff things up, so at best, I stay quietly confident.

I have to disagree, it's just a bit of fun and can't possibly bite you on the arse if you don't let it. Many of us enjoy the piss taking part of football and don't care if other teams fans give it back when they're on top.

Not sure you've completely grasped the philosophy wholeheartedly…

Er why not, i've said i hold my hands up, I'm looking like being wrong! But i hope Townsend can push on and swing it back the other way?

What haven't i grasped exactly?

Have you been trawling back in time again this afternoon and found something else to get all excited about?

The irony does not work in here , we missed on many good players like him , Suarez , Moutinho and so on.It's about the low salaries , lack of club ambitions , lack of Champions League .. So don't play irony , it's not funny the fact we sold Bale to get new players and our owner is just a pseudo billionaire. The new stadium? We won't build a new stadium guys.
