I feel young Danny boy has come in for a hell of a lot of stick over the last year, and the majority has been completely unnecessary.
To start with according to most he had a rubbish season, please tell me which defender had a good season, even Vertongen who is easily are best defender looked pretty shit last season. I think our problem defensively last season was that to start with under AVB we played in a very strict style so our attacking was woeful, luckily due to some penalties and our high level of possession we won games, but after a while teams realised that we were pretty impotent going forward so started applying pressure and as our possession went down, we had to defend more and more, plus with injuries we weren't playing with the same back four regularly and that's when the goals against us started to go up and up, this left our whole defense as a laughing stock, and a lot targeted Danny as the problem.
When we changed to Sherwood the attacking got better( not exactly a hard achievement) this was due to him just letting players of such a tight leash, and allowing them to go and do what they wanted, but this left our defense disorganised and subject to counters, and often they came down our left, so yet again Danny got more of the blame, so why has our left side been such an Achilles ankle to us?
Also why did he have such a good season at Sunderland, well to start with they have quite a few left footed midfielders, who would naturally work with Danny, so when he bombed forward they would cover, plus when defending he had the support of a left midfielder, so they could double team the attacker.
Now back to Spurs, last season we played the majority of the time with right footed players in the LM position plus we often played Eriksson in that position then gave him a free role, which meant they went wondering and left no cover for Danny, plus I'm sure Sherwood told him to get forward to provide some width and attacking options on the left, THIS is what left us dreadfully exposed on the left, and lead to people saying Danny was way out of position, leaving Danny in a no win situation.
Now I'm not saying I think he's the best LB in the world but he's certainly not as bad as people make out, and I think this season with some better organisation and fewer injuries our defense should look loads better, I for one wouldn't mind seeing Rose and Davies playing LM and LB respectively for some games as they could solve the Left sided problem together.

Well he signed a new deal, so he clearly does have some fight in him.

I can't see Davies or Rose being the undisputed number 1 LB this season. They will share the responsibility. Healthy competition at LB, finally.

Agree strongly, and said pretty much the same thing in the Danny Rose thread

i very much agree with your point. only innaccuracy is saying people targeted rose when it all came crashing down under avb, he missed all but the first four games of the season so wasn't a part of the meltdown, by that point most on here were actually clamouring for him to return from injury. personaly i've written off everything i saw defensively in the final 5/6 months of the season, the way tim had us playing made it impossibly difficult for the back four to not look a complete mess. he started the season really well, i know it was a long time ago but he really did, at home to norwich was an especially impressive performance.

Agree with the OP. Some of our fans reactions towards him has been utterly disgraceful and totally unwarranted. Before he got injured he was improving but when he came back into tactical Tim's team he was left exposed and hung out to dry. Hopefully under Poch he can go back to improving how he was at the beginning of last season.

For what's it worth, I do agree to an extent. There has been some serious over reaction at times.

He isn't good enough to make it at LM, he struggled there for Bristol city and not to mention he doesnt seem to be as rapid as he use to be ever since his knee injury

True, but with the way our team neglect the left side defensively, putting 2 LBs in the team might sure that side up, plus he's not got a bad cross on him :)

It's not so much the performances last season but the 'perceived' attitude that went with it and the whole 'play me or I'm off' quotes. No one has the right to come out with that, especially when it was his first full season as it makes him look a bit silly if he drops a few left bollocks. Look at the likes of Dembele, Capoue, Soldado et al, all under performing seasoned pro's who just got on with it, even when they weren't playing.
Vertonghen also copped a fair amount of flack for not looking like he could be bothered.
For me you either put up or shut up and for me Danny boy didn't do either very well....

I've never understood how so many of our fans have such short memories. Rose was looking like one of the top 5 LB's in the league at the start of the season, before his injury and I can remember loads of fans claiming he would make a massive difference when he came back into the team. Fair enough, he wasn't anywhere near as good when he returned but some of the criticism he got was ridiculous. It got to the point where almost every goal that came down the left side was entirely rose's fault, as if there isn't 3 other defenders plus midfielders that are also responsible for defending the penalty area. He's done fairly well in pre season and looks pretty confident which seems important for him to perform well, so I just hope if he does have a bad game some of the idiots that attend WHL don't boo him because if he gets back to the level he started last season at, which is by no means unlikely, we will have 2 very good young LB's to compete, the outcome would only be a good one for the club

What were these apparent quotes? Id be intrigued to see exactly what he said if he did indeed say that, also when people say attitude what do you mean exactly?

Rather put Townsend there who did track back well for QPR and played LB for the youth teams. Just buying a real LW will make us stronger on the left

I agree with everything that's been said regarding his talent going forward, including that he appears to either have lost a yard of pace since his injury, or his confidence isn't allowing him to really push like he used to, however, facts are facts and last year he was caught out high up the field too often and not once did he make an effort more than a half-arsed jog to get back. Not once. Considering this is something we have all witnessed, and that his general attitude has come into question at every club he's played for on loan, i feel he's top of the list to go if we can get a fair price and can cover.

Naughton, i gave a world of stick to - our free gift with a packet of Walkers - but whilst Rose has skills but a bad attitude, Naughton has few tricks but has a fantastic attitude. I'd much rather see us keeping hold of Naughton, personally.

Didn't take me long to google it, I also remember it got a few peoples backs up on here as well, why don't you have a search...this is taken from the itv website dated 12th august 2013:
"I enjoyed every minute of it and now I've experienced it, coming here and sitting on the bench is not something I'd be looking to do.

"I love this club, but if I don't play regularly then I'm not going to be happy, just like everyone else wouldn't be happy.

"I wouldn't be going on loan again. If I wasn't playing then a loan's not an option for me now. I want to get settled somewhere, playing week in week out."

Huzzah the magical 'play me or I'm off quotes' appear and to be honest there is absolutely nothing in that. What I see is a hungry player who wants to play games for Spurs, this my friend is called ambition and a player who wants to improve. I'd take a young player who thinks he's good enough for the first team and thinks he deserves a shot over a player who is happy to sit on the bench, make the odd cameo appearance and collect his wage.

What's more is that we've just signed another left back hence now he knows he'll have competition for his place yet he still signed a new contract. That doesn't sound like a player who wants to leave nor does it sound like he has an attitude problem.

If that quote has indeed got people's backs up then I'm afraid some of you are pathetic.
