8 years on from signing him what are the forums honest opinions of him.

For me he is one player we should seriously look to be upgrading on. To think quite a few Spurs fans think Theo is "a shit Aaron Lennon" is laughable. He is a impact player off the bench at best, just like Defoe. Yes he has had a "good" season, for him, but that really aint saying much. Does he chip in with enough goals and assists to justify his undisputed starts in the team...? I would love to see Andros given a run next season or Son if we manage to sign him.

His stats for us.... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aaron_Lennon

He has to become more productive, simple as that. Yeah the comparison to Walcott is a tough one because recently Walcott has developed his finishing while Lennon has not. When Walcott gets through on goal it's starting to feel more inevitable that he'll score, with Lennon it feels more likely that he'll miss, or try a pass that isn't on.

Still think he's an excellent player but if he doesn't become more productive we need someone better.
TBF, I don't think Lennon's finishing is the problem. He just very rarely gets into positions to finish. You could probably count on one hand the amount of clear cut chances he's had this season. The goal against Arsenal is a great example of the type of off-the-ball runs he should be making, but it was one of the few times he actually made that run all season. He spends too much of the game on the touchline and never attempts to get goal side of his full back which makes him easy to mark out of a game. That can be worked on, but it really needs to otherwise he'll be replaced.

one word springs to mind - 'inconsistent'
frightening on his day but his days are far too infrequent for a player of his age.
Typical Spurs player really - too good for mid table not good/consistent enough as a regular in a top 4 side

He's a good player but he's hit his ceiling for me potential wise. I don't really see a future for him in the 4-3-3. I'll always love Aaron but if we bring in a wide forward as well as Andros, I think we'd have to seriously consider any good offers for him.

Lennon coming back from injury has been awful. For some reason he doesnt get to the byline as he used to.

Townsend will hopefully be the kick in the backside that he needs for next season

If we can sell him for £4m more than we pay for Son, and have Townsend available, I say it's time for him to move on.
There was a rumour that Inter were interested. That would be good for us but I don't think Lennon would be brave enough to move there - and with the reported racism, I'm not sure I'd blame him.

We don't fully appreciate him until he's out of the team. We then look slow and not very dangerous.

Lennon always takes time to come back from an injury, we rushed him and bale back I don't think either were anywhere near ready.

One of the last players who people should be worrying about. Instead of going on about 'competition' how about just giving the bloke a bit of help so he doesn't have to play every minute of every game? Or a central midfield player who can play to his strengths and give him a pass to run into instead of him being asked to dribble past a full-back every time he gets the ball? How people possibly be suggesting selling Lennon with some of distinctly average players in similar positions ill never know.

Will struggle if AVB implements a 4-3-3 system next year, as I don't think he has the power or eye for goal that's required to play as part of a front 3.

Would still keep him as a squad player, as he has an excellent work ethic and his pace still frightens opposition defenses.

That wouldn't work, Lennon likes the ball into feet, I have lost count of the amount of times someone plays a pass a couple of yards in front of him and he is on his heels so a move breaks down.

Happened against Sunderland, Ade i think it was, flicked the ball on and Lennon just stood watching it..

Rarely scores, end product not good enough for us to break down teams. I would love the guy from St Ettiene, Pierre Emerick something or other. He is terrifyingly fast, scores goals and can play wide right or through the middle.

It happens several times in a game, trust me.

One of the most annoying things about him.

Can't be bothered if the ball is not where he wants it.

For me he is an average footballer. I don't really like wing play so i'm biased but Bale has evolved his game far beyond being a winger whilst Lennon has stood still (literally sometimes)

He has a good technique but his game is 90% pace. He has little in the way of skill or a trick to beat a man. No real football brain, his passing/movement is meh, as is his awareness of where to go to get on the ball (inside) he is a poor striker of a ball, often getting into great positions on the byline only to mishit/scuff a pass.
If a fullback gets the beating of him early on he very rarely attempts to go at them again which renders him being on the pitch as worthless.

Best thing about him I could say is that in open games when he is at it he can be effective, and he does not shirk his defensive responsibility. Would be happy to keep as an impact sub. But like the OP think we should be looking to upgrade, especially in a 4-3-3

I love the guy as much as the next bloke, but he doesn't offer enough in enough games for me and if we want to progress, then I'm afraid we need to upgrade on Lennon, especially if we have aspirations to use a 4-3-3. Many games he is a complete non-factor going forward, yes he does a sterling job helping out and tracking back but we need him to affect the game in the final third more than he does. Alot of people think he hs been one of our best players this year, largely because of his work ethic, which is all well and good but a right winger needs to be judged on the things he is the game to do. And his fragility is an issue, as he doesn't recover well - it takes him 3 or 4 game sto look like his comfortable and back up to speed
