world-class defensive winger, good grief...

and I personally don't find running at full-speed that exciting unless it actually leads to something.

One of our better performers today although that's not saying much. Lovely pass to Dembele in the first half, who could have scored with better control, great defensive work, decent going forwards, some nice passes.

I started this thread the day after last season ended. As you can see I got slated a fair bit for it. Tell me has anything changed this season.....?

Oh the old 'have you seen him play' line? Actually, yes, and I'd wager more than you as I've taken a keener interest in La Liga (all teams, not just the top two) than anybody on this forum for a very long time. He's a very good player, but going away from the (pretty conclusive) stats and relying just on my eyes, he's as inconsistent as Lennon, he's about the same for technique, he's a little more varied and inventive but he's not quite as quick and nowhere near as hard working. There is very little, if anything, between them.

And by the way, writing of stats taken over a short period of time is justifiable, but taken over 7/8 years is just ignorant.

Seeing as you're so confident about Navas is going to outdo Lennon next season, care to back your words up? A wager, if Lennon scores and assists a combined fewer league goals than Navas, I'll donate £200 to SC, if vice versa, you have to donate £200. This is ignoring the fact that Navas will be at a better team with better strikers. I'll add the caveat that they have to have started within 5 league matches of eachother so that they have a level playing field.
about this bet then....

Navas EPL Games started 14: Goals 4 Assists 6...... All comps G 6 A 15

Not a totally fair comparison as Navas is world class and surrounded by world class players... Try this instead:

Lennon: Games started 19; Goals 1; Assists 1
Lallana: Games started 29 Goals 7; Assists 7
Pablo Hernandez: Games started 11; Goals 1; Assists 6
Chris Brunt: Games started 19; Goals 2; Assists 5
Adam Johnson: Games started 19; Goals 7; Assists 4

Edit: Oh I didn't see that bet, wow.

It was more in reference to the "bet" a few posts above mine, but fucking hell Chris Brunt is having a better season than Lennon.

Any self respecting moneyballer would've given Azza his cards long ago.

I for one will miss him if he gets the chop in the summer,I have enjoyed watching him destroy many a left back over the years.

but is Chris Brunt making space for his full-backs to run into? is he defending as well as Lennon does? is he FRIGHTENING DEFENDERS WITH HIS PACE???

if not, then you clearly don't know what you're talking about

Like I have said before, he is the footballing equivalent of a cocktease. We really need him out as he just offers so little actual end product, and on current viewings effort.

I've been saying it for some time and me and a mate disagree but I think he hasn't improved over the last 5 years at least. He is the same player doing the same thing.

His defensive work-rate is unquestionable and commendable but really...is that what you want from a winger in a team that already struggles to create chances and score goals?

The problem is...who do we get who is better? There is no one. I don't believe Lamela has been bought as RW I think they want him to play as a second striker. Konoplyanka has done better on the left and I am not convinced he is that good.

At this age and playing at this level for so long Lennon should be a consistent performer but he is the opposite, he still seems to not know when to go past a man, when to come inside and when to cross early or when to go to the by-line. Infuriatingly when he gets into good positions he often puts in the wrong type of cross. A great e.g.. is Benfica's first goal in the week when the guy got to the right hand side of the box and cleverly dinked the ball in for Garay. Lennon would have smashed it low...

You talk about England team as well, Sterling is showing more confidence, dynamism and most importantly end product than him. Walcott has improved his goalscoring ability to compensate for him not being a great crosser.

Don't get me wrong, I like Lennon and he has been here for a long time so I appreciate his contributions but I am just frustrated he hasn't pushed himself on (we probably would have sold him if he had anyway!!)

The only way you get to play out your career at Spurs is if you are not quite good enough (Dawson, Lennon) or plagued by injuries (King, Anderton). It is where we are in the food chain I am afraid.

I highly doubt Eriksen, Lamela, Loris Verts, thought that when they signed.
