Watford are understood to have valued the 25-year-old, who was the club’s top scorer last season, at £45 million, a fee which has moved to ward off interest from the Premier League’s top sides.

Doucoure’s superb 2017/18 season had led many to believe he would depart Vicarage Road this summer, and the player himself claimed Arsenal, Tottenham Hotspur and Liverpool were all keeping tabs on him.

No offer has materialised from any of those clubs and they are wary of paying over the odds, regardless off Doucoure’s sustained form with the Hornets.

Both Liverpool and Arsenal have signed central midfield players this summer leaving Spurs as the most likely to make a late approach for the Watford number 16.

He is non home-grown.

We have to sell a non home-grown player first.

No one is buying our players.

Because they know that our window ends soon so they will wait.

Then we will be left selling our shit players for peanuts.

Whoever voted for this early window finish is NUTS.

Not at all.

The window closing before the season starts is a good idea. It makes absolute sense.

Just a shame we have a chairman who is happy to continue his old tricks in light of it.

slightly off topic but how did Watford stay up when their top scorer was a midfielder with 7 goals? anyway, 45 million for a competent midfielder is a-ok with me.

If we can’t buy top quality in this window because of WC, early non-synchronous TW, tight bald guy or any other excuse then I’d rather give our young players a chance than buy more mediocrity which is what Doucoure is. We need to avoid loading the squad with more sub-standard players like Sissoko that we then can’t shift.

If we are to do any business then let’s sign up players for next year like de Ligt or de Jong.

Looked a mess when he first arrived but he's been excellent for a while now. Would hope we could find something better for the money suggested however.
