I thought this would be our big deadline day.

Think it will just be Amrabat. I'm sure he'll be good for Conte.

But yeah I guess its building towards an underwhelming climax.

Still retain a glimmer of hope that because of the Conte factor we'll get a Diaz or whatever but it feels fanciful.

January is tough, the excuse was pre-baked.

Im in the same boat, but I have to remember who we are dealing with above, no matter who’s in charge.

Can’t lie I’m really confused here.

This seemed done a few days ago now it’s off whilst we’ve still got bigger all in.

What is actually going on?
Well... Mendes and Traore have kept their options open. With the contacts to Barca... I guess it's normal... I will be gutted if we don't get him... But if a player prefers another club then stay away from Spurs. We need dedication to our club. Simple... let's see what happens... If he comes anyway then we know he has chosen us ahead of Barca... win win :)

The crazy thing is that will mean we still need a CB, RWB, CM, AM/WF and ST in the summer. We won't have secured any of the quality targets position wise that we needed this January which will leave us with far too much to do in the summer.

Who is a proper dedicated RWB these days though? And who we could actually get who we can call as such? It's not like it's the most common position to specialise in and Conte is renowned for having wingers playing there.

Not arguing with the call for a player as such but to me it's not like there are loads of candidates.
It's a niche role but there are obvious candidates like Lamptey who are far more suited to the role that Traore. I'm not a scout and I don't spend hours watching other leagues so I can't claim to know tons of other viable RWB options, but I can't help but feel there are more natural options out there than Traore to be our starting wing back.

I wouldn't mind a converted winger either, I just don't think Traore's skillset is the most natural fit for that role. He's too wild and inconsistent - I'd much prefer a quick, technical winger who will be more comfortable getting involved in the build up if we're going down that route.

It was never close to done as we were clearly a second choice for him.

We might of had the fundamentals agreed, but we were clearly on ice whilst they waited to see if Barca would firm their interest up.

They clearly have.

Why aren't we being linked to back up striker? No reason why we can't do a deal similar to the one for Amrabat even if they are underwhelming.

Only getting Amrabat pushes the Conte rebuild into this time next year unfortunately.

We need players, desperately.
And we need to back Conte.

The copium on here is insane

He would have been great for us and is gonna be great for Barca

I'm really miffed to be honest. We have been fucked over on almost every single one of our targets this window

Then we'll hear we're waiting on city, Chelsea, United etc to do their business first before we make moves......

Left centre back too but then I think one centre midfielder along with Sarr should be enough. 5 signings is very doable in the summer. We signed 4 last summer and Paratici arrived fairly late while we had no manager to identify players for until late too.

Meh, was never convinced he was anything more than a Patrici target, nor convinced he had the ability to play rwb at level required.
It dies appear like we have been done by Mendes again, which is not a good look, but I hope that can be addressed by moving to another target, we don't need to be leaving too much until the summer.

and they never do their business first. They rely on other clubs to put in all the legwork then swoop in and big dick the deal for a price even less than the original one was haggled for.

for fucks sake it looks like Barca are gonna get him on loan, we were specifically told a loan with an option was off the table.

Not Levy this one but Paratici. That depends if we have alternative targets. Complete failure of scouting if not. But this will wait till the summer now, and we won't manage more than 3 first teamers then.
Still be levy.....The world of twitter will say levy hired him !!

Even Lamptey I think would be too big a risk at present for the money he would cost and his injury problems. I've said before and although things can change and we can sign players with perfect injury records and then they come here and it changes, I think it's such a valuable trait to have someone who is generally fit most of the time. If he plays out the rest of the season fully fit then that may be a good enough sign and someone we can keep an eye on in the summer.

I'm sure there are definitely better options, but I do feel like we need someone now for that position also and in January, your options are massively limited as they are. For what he could provide in being Prem-proven, press resistant, lightning quick, can cover multiple positions and whether things often come off or not, certainly a genuine threat, I really don't see it as a bad signing for around £20m.

This one is clearly game over
It’s dead in the water just hope patrici has a good back up plan for RWB because it’s vital to the way conte wants to play

If the Traore move falls through can see us persevering with Royal and Doherty until the end of the season, then going in big for a dedicated RWB (e.g. Lamptey) in the summer.

I wouldn't be remotely surprised if we're looking for a specialist RWB come the summer even if we do get Traore, as I just can't see a world in which Traore becomes our regular starting RWB week-in/week-out.

Don't see that happening whatsoever. Too expensive for this club.

Had to look that word up :ROFLMAO:.

This isn't sour grapes because Barca are now involved - I've always been against signing Traore. Didn't want him last summer and don't particularly want him now.

He'd be an exciting option to bring on as an agent of chaos, but I don't think he really solves many of our problems and we'll end up having to spend more money on a proper wing back down the line when we realise he doesn't really fit.

Obviously hope I'm wrong about him if we do get him, though.
