Hopefully we realized soon enough that the deal was being delayed because Mendes was negotiating with Barca and looked at other options. Or maybe it was delayed because we were looking at other options?

of this is solely down to mendes, he is a fucking PARASITE! and we should have no dealings with him again!

He's really just doing his job, client is open to moving to Spurs but a bigger club comes calling...

Not to say he isn't a parasite but its hardly underhanded moving your client on to a bigger club at what is most likely his wish.

Blessing in disguise if he goes to Barca.

He's not a RWB and will end up as yet another impact player off the bench as he's too inconsistent to start every game in the front 3 or reliably defend as a wing back. Don't know why so many people think he will revolutionise our attack when he's always been a rotational option at Wolves.

Would much rather we sign a proper, dedicated attacking RWB for the long term than trying to shoe-horn in Traore cos he's Paratici's pet project. Doesn't even sound like Conte is that fussed about him.

I’ve been saying the same since day one. Honestly guys it’s not a big miss I promise. It will prove a bullet dodged.

Just goes to show that so much must be going on behind the scenes.

Hahah he wasn't keen to play RWB.

LOL wtf.

That is laughable. SO if he did join he would have been a disaster in that position.

Told you he doesn't have the stamina to play there!

I'm fine with passing on him. I don't think he is required quality to play in front three. As RWB I was really interested to see what he could do there but I don't think we missed opportunity here.

For fucks sake - drag a deal on long enough that I finally get behind the idea and excited about a big bruising brute with the pace of Usain Bolt bombing down the wing...

....and, no. We're not allowed nice things.

This is the reason you pay the money and get the deal done early.

Less likely to get trumped by a bigger club and if you do, you have time to go for another target.

poor planning and execution again.

hardly makes the player feel like they’re really wanted either.

Mendes, and the merry band of ‘super’ agents just like him for that matter, are a complete cancer we should never have got in bed with.

The only person that benefits from dealing with them are the agents themselves.

Almost as self-serving and corrupt as our current government, but that’s a discussion for a different day.

I wanted him as a RWB but if he was coming in purely as a forward option then pay more for Diaz

For all we know Barca could’ve been in his ear from January 1st telling him to hold tight. Not much we could do if Barca was always the option he was waiting for

People just can't help blame us for this. Like we should have forced him to move. He was clearly waiting to see his options just like Vlahovic. We're missing out to the likes of Juve and Barca, 2 of the biggest clubs in the world. It sucks but it happens, we just have to move on.

Even Lamptey I think would be too big a risk at present for the money he would cost and his injury problems. I've said before and although things can change and we can sign players with perfect injury records and then they come here and it changes, I think it's such a valuable trait to have someone who is generally fit most of the time. If he plays out the rest of the season fully fit then that may be a good enough sign and someone we can keep an eye on in the summer.

I'm sure there are definitely better options, but I do feel like we need someone now for that position also and in January, your options are massively limited as they are. For what he could provide in being Prem-proven, press resistant, lightning quick, can cover multiple positions and whether things often come off or not, certainly a genuine threat, I really don't see it as a bad signing for around £20m.
I get where you're coming from and I'd certainly give Paratici and Conte the benefit of the doubt if we brought in Traore as a 'value' deal to temporarily patch a hole in the squad.

My problem with the deal is, he's a bit of a square peg in a round hole, and we've made that mistake so many times already with players like Sessegnon, Royal, Lo Celso etc.

I'd much rather pay a bit more money and bring in someone who is an obvious fit for the position long term, rather than take a cheap(ish) punt on a player who in my opinion will end up being yet another bench warmer/impact sub before too long. We can't keep wasting money on players that don't really suit our system and/or won't improve the first 11.
