Eek Adebayor came out of Bristol???

All the same, I think Spurs fans can do better than elephants and whores. Wouldn't like to hear it at Wembley. Something that includes a reference to the 5-1 beating of l'arse and whatever our winning score is against Chelsea, would do nicely.

you aint seen my missus mate!!!

I'd love to wash elephants!

Elephants and Tigers, the 2 greatest animals (including humans) on the planet.

Just an aside I was wondering if this is so racist as some seem to think people why the Ivory Coast football team nickname themselves as the Elephants?

i don't usually care about these things, but I do wonder... if the chant isn't racist, then what is it? I mean, it's not funny... If there WAS hidden racism intent, then at least it would be at some level, clever, but if you guys are insisting it's NOT racist, then what the hell is the point of it????

your dad washes elephants and yourmums a whole - riiight. clever boys.

It is intended to be abusive. Loads of football chants are. It is only when the player isn't white that suddenly people find racism. We had this with Sol Campbell a few years. For the vast majority he was getting stick because of how he fucked us over and left for our nearest rivals. Yet there were a few articles in the press that suggested racism. It is stupid. Everyone knows where the limits are in football. Some chants would be unacceptable and people who tried to start them would probably find themselves policed by the fans themselves. Abusive chants in general are fine, however. This Adebayor chant may be offensive and unpleasent but it isn't racist and it will continue to be chanted at games. No one is forcing you to chant it, so don't. That is what I intend to do.

I don't think its very funny regardless of if its racist or not. It doesn't have anything clever in it. I think it is clearly racist though. As was said earlier, no non-Black player would have a song in which his dad supposedly washes elephants. Lastly, why are we singing about Arsenal in our UEFA Cup match? I'm sure they won't be singing about Berbatov against Milan.

"The wheels on your house go round and round, round and round, round and round." to Southend fans.

"We can see you holding hands" to Brighton fans.

"You go out, you drink 10 pints, get absolutely plastered, you come home, you beat the wife, you dirty Northern bastards, you dirty Northern bastards" to Port Vale last year.

Explain how they're not worse. We've got homophobic, travellerist, Regionalist ... yet not an eye-lid battered.

You're pulling out ethnic/racist cards more inconsistently than Clattenburg and his cards.

I understand why someone would go down those lines of reasoning but it's different. regionalism, sexisum, homophobia, even zenophiba when you think about it are not nice but the connotations and deep routed history or pergitude are incomparable to Rascism. I agree there is a seeming level of hypocarcy in it but stoof you are worng to argue it being the same, or using one to justify the use of another.

the elephant line in the song is on dodgy ground and thats enough for me to be apposed to it.

and his mother being a black whore.

Eh?

Well maybe it's me being naive, then - I just don't understand why people go up in arms just because they can potentially play the race card.

There's a lot worse out there. And I suppose it just makes me sad that we're permanently treading on toes. At football. The home of terrace humour, camaraderie and wit.

I think it's pretty clever. As I say, it takes some talent in cramming so much filth into such a short verse. Go on, you try coming up with something cleverer using the same tune.

I agree Stoof m8, don't get me wrong. I personally think the song is tongue in cheek and a bit of a laugh aimed at the hate of Arsenal and that particular Arsenal player MORE SO then it is racist but as to the argument of whether the chant is racist or not...well, it is.

I'm a bit uncomfortable with it personally, but I'm a lily-livered politically correct white-boy. Us guys can't say anything.

But what about... "...his Dad died cleaning elephants / and his mothers a whore..."?

Bit of a mouthful, but covers everything and conjures an amusing image of a big elephant sitting on someone.

Ah replacing supposed racism with homosexual accusations.

Much better.

Seems like the Pot singing about the Kettle's Dad washing elephants. Or something along those lines.

Humour suffers the same fate as beauty - in that it is in the eye of the beholder.

Obviously you hate Izzard and his random ramblings as a point of humour. I find this funny as the original chant is so dull that the randomness and the image constructed of his father actually washing an elephant is amusing as a starting point - and the day calling someone's Mum a whore becomes unamusing, well, is the day I become dynamoSpurs I assume.

Must ... find ... way ... to ... be ... insulted.

Jeez. People try to look for offence these days and it's a very sad state of affairs.
lol, i'm not offended, but as I said, I can't find the humour in that particular chant, so, if it's not racist, nor clever, nor funny, what's the point of it??? That was my question.. but you're right, humour is a matter of opinion, so to speak, and obviously some people find it amusing, hence this topic. Why they - no idea.

You're missing the point mate.. The whole point of my 2 cents was trying to reveal why the chant is funny (regardless of race).. Your chant is even more unfunny.

It is racist, its implying that if your from africa the only job oppotunity that your parents have is to wash elephants and sell themselves for sex.

I first heard the song on the tuesday of the 5-1 game and then it seemed to be just your mums a whore which to be fair flowed and was in tune the whole your dad washes elephants line makes it sound shit when sung in unison.

Now what I do find fucking funny is the update of the wenger song in relation to Maddie McCann. Now that is really bad taste but still fucking funny.
