Exactly. There was a similar thread on FTL last week. One poster (noodles) was saying it was not a racist chant. I told him - and anyone who thought the same - to use the expression to a black person and let me know how they got on. He never posted back on that one.

So I'd like to extend the same invitiation here. If you think "your Dad washes elephants" is not racist, try it at work tomorrow to a black colleague. Let me know how you get on.

Some think its racist and offensive, some think just offensive, some think that it isnt either, just funny.

So a way to end this debate for those of you who think its funny and to those in the "I have a black friend so it doesnt matter brigade",..... move away from the safety net of this forum show your true selves and apply these comments to the first black person of similar sex who you dont know alone ( I will assume that its not only blokes here) and see if they laugh and find it funny.

We will then have a debriefing of the results!

That's a different matter entirely. There's levels of racism, of course. Some racial insults can be seen as just banter. I use a lot of racial insults with my friends, because I know them and they know how I mean it all. I'm not necessarily moaning at the chant.

All I'm saying is that if you try to abuse a black African by saying "Your dad washes elephants" it is a racial insult. By definition. Some people are saying it isn't, and they're wrong. Using someone's nationality or ethnic background in an insult makes in a racial insult, by definition.

Anyone who says otherwise is wrong.

Calling a Frenchman a frog?.. we've had that discussion before somewhere... involving calling Scots Jocks etc.. is it offensive?.. possibly, possibly not although I doubt you'd go round calling every French person you met a frog ..mainly because it has no historical undertone.. insult a black man on the basis of his skin and you're getting yourself involved with thousands of years of abuse. Call a german a Nazi and you're getting involved with one of the most appalling periods of recent history.

The chant is obviously race snsitive. It was also chanted with hatred obviously as it was by spurs fans about an arsenal player. I'm sure there was an attempt at humour involved but not particularly funny either. And just to complete the fucking shitty failure of the whole thing, whoever sang it has a lower IQ than an elephant cleaner (and most whores) because they seem to have forgotton that we have an african player ourselves.
