It's a racial stereotype. It might not be flat out racist, but I wouldn't feel comfortable singing it. Especially as his dad is dead. You've got to draw the line somewhere. On top of that, it's a bloody shit chant! It doesn't even rhyme. I also think it's a sad state of affairs when we're singing about Arsenal players when we're not even playing them

Not meaning to target you mate, but imagine if you get riled by a few comments on a web forum, how much worse it must be to put up with a life-time full of similar bullsh*t.

The chant, which to you is just words, to someone else makes them feel sh*t about supporting Spurs and is just another brick in the wall.

To be fair, I was absolutely battered when I wrote that.

Apologies.

That's a different matter entirely. There's levels of racism, of course. Some racial insults can be seen as just banter. I use a lot of racial insults with my friends, because I know them and they know how I mean it all. I'm not necessarily moaning at the chant.

All I'm saying is that if you try to abuse a black African by saying "Your dad washes elephants" it is a racial insult. By definition. Some people are saying it isn't, and they're wrong. Using someone's nationality or ethnic background in an insult makes in a racial insult, by definition.

Anyone who says otherwise is wrong.

I don't know how many more times I can say it, or how I can be any clearer about it.

Different levels of racism!?!?!? What the f*ck????? Surely if u feel like u do shady then racism is racism?

If thats how you feel i hope you never sing the 'yid army' chant or anything similar?? Bet i bet you do because this in your book is 'banter with friends' or a 'different level'

Oh please. If you cant say what you are trying to say enough as one of your post says then why not just sshhh and agree to disagree with people rather than calling them pricks on here. That my friend is an insult too.

Now i'll prepare to be called a prick and cry when you call me it and claim its only because of my religious beliefs that you are calling me it. Then ill start a thread saying i am being targeted. Racism.

No, not at all. Calling a Scottish friend of yours a "sweaty" (as I do all the time to my best mate) is different to calling a black person you don't know a "coon". They're both racial terms, but viewed differently. Once again, that's a fact that you can't deny.

The difference is when I call you a fucking prick (which you are), I stand by my comments. I'll happily admit they're abusive insults. I won't try and pretend that "prick" could have meant a piercing cause by a pin or needle, or some other bollocks.

I'm abusive, I know and admit that. I also admit that a lot of jokes I made (and make) are racial jokes. Fuck, I'm one of the most non-pc people in real life that you'll ever meet. But when I make a racist joke, I admit that it's a racist joke. People who know me also know that although it may be a racist joke/comment/song/chant, I'm not actually racist. But I won't try and deny that it is racist.

Singing an abusive chant about a black African's father washing elephants IS racist.

Me calling you a prick IS abusive.

Fucking deal with it.

People used to think the Sun orbited the Earth. (In fact, rather worryingly a whole load of people who my Mum teaches [adults] still thought that - poor Galileo :-()

to be fair they both orbit the combined centre of mass of the sun and earth, it's just that the sun is considerably more massive so it's closer to the sun

you dumb racist

As must as I hate to say it....GB is a home to racist 'banter' (England moreso). It is always easier to sing about 'foreigners' when you don't have much to sing about in your own country! Alf Garnett still lives and thrives in England.....but he was a Spam Fan (poor guy! lol) COYS.
Some day, in a few years time, racism will cease to be so prominent and chants as we are hearing will be a bad memory....I hope! Todays racism will always be a laugh until the laughing is shown up for what it is....Who will be the first to help to stop? Ask the Germans how it began for them.....and how it finished. We, of all British clubs, should be aware of what hatred and racism can accomplish.....and of what fruit it bears.....60 years on and our young still chant as if it was all a JOKE! It could be YOU that the next chant is aimed at COYS (the real Spurs fan.....)

I stopped reading after the highlighted bit.

Go up to Scotland and you'll here a lot more than in England phrases like: "just going doon the paki shop" and: "I fancy a wee chinkies tonight"

England have more foreigners, so IMO, there is less racism in England.
