If we went big at CM I'd be perfectly ok with Plea being our only forward signing. CM cost us more points than our forward options last year.

I totally agree and I think that’s how most of us here feel.

That said from all the talk from the ITK and all the press links it seems the club and Poch don’t really agree and are trying to go big at AM and take punts on CM. My opinion on this will be heavily based on whether one of the punts turns into a gem or if Winks gets back to his best this year.

Otherwise our CM options may yet again cost us this year.

I think its been a bit of both on the ITK & links. Seems like we're definitely interested in Ndombele and I'm personally optimistic on the Kovacic links.

This is actually a pretty poor article imo - seems to basically assume that we are favourites after Newcastle's failure without much actual evidence.

Tottenham favourites to sign Nice striker Alassane Plea after Newcastle fail to move quickly enough

Tottenham Hotspur have entered the race to land Nice striker Alassane Plea after Newcastle United failed to move quickly enough to complete the signing as they haggled over the price.

Plea is valued at £27m by his French club, but Newcastle had only offered £20m, which appears to have left the door open for Spurs to hijack the deal. The London club, who can offer Champions League football next season, will now be the favourites to sign the centre-forward who scored 21 goals in Ligue 1 last term.

German club Borussia Monchengladbach have also been negotiating with Nice, but the player wants to play in the Premier League and his preference was to do so under Benitez.

That should have made the deal relatively simple to complete, but Newcastle’s obsession with trying to secure a bargain means they now seem likely to miss out on the 25-year-old unless they raise their offer, something they have so far failed to do, even though it was rejected several days ago.

Reads like a regurgitation of several different bits of transfer forum rumors. Doesn't actually contain any claims of new information other than maybe Newcastle dragging their heels on a deal. Which interestingly I cannot recall hear anything of from French media.

i dont know enough about him to give an opinion- like I said, only watched a few minutes on youtube but looks like a much different kind of striker than we've pursued to back up Harry. Who knows, could work out very well. 25m euros is the new 15m so I guess its worth it. Just still disappointing, Jann Fiete Aarp was the young backup striker that I wanted.

I think even if we get Plea we should throw a 10 mil or whatever punt on Arp, loan him back to Germany for a few years to let him continue to grow. Just pull a Chelsea on that one, if he turns out great... if not it won't be a big deal that will set us back.

Regarding Plea all we need is a striker who can at least be average, in what I've seen of him Plea shows more ability than Llorente at this stage and is probably more talented than Janssen. Plus against those lower level cup games he'll likely have Son, Lamela and Lucas in behind him so should have plenty of chances coming from that group. Hell the one game they played together they managed to feed Llorente enough to score a hat trick.

None of the top clubs in France are interested in this guy, that should tell you a lot. I know PSG buy quality out of our league but if this guy was good enough for us wouldn’t Marseille, Monaco or Lyon be interested, if nothing else than to flog him in a year or 2 ?

Instead our competition are Munchengladbach and Newcastle. For every Kante or Mahrez there are hundreds of Njies and Nkoudous. Really depressing tone to the ITK today.

Monaco were one of the first teams to be linked with him, as well as Dortmund.

I know I quoted that early in this thread but those were links which haven’t materialised which suggests nothing but paper talk, the concrete interest right now is Gladbach and Newcastle, that tells you a lot.

This argument is used for every player we’re linked with and it’s complete nonsense.

I've got this crazy idea, hear me out. Maybe we're looking at Plea as a depth/rotation option and Newcastle/Mönchengladbach are looking at him as an every day starter?
Actually nevermind, that's a stupid thought. We're obviously looking to give him the same squad status he'd get at footballing giants Newcastle and Mönchengladbach.
