If he is going to be llorentes replacement with son at the asian games i can see it. He'd also cover am aswell.

Would he get enough time to justify £27m though?

I just don't see the point on getting this guy. He's a right footed LWF/Forward. I can't see him being on the same level as Son, so why not just use him as backup? He's 5ft 9 so hardly a presence up front. Why do we insist on these punts from France?
I mean I don't disagree. We do need to at least add 1 player up front if we're getting rid of Janssen and Llorente.

If we are indeed getting rid of Jansson and Llorente, we would hopefully recover a decent amount of the fee Plea would command with the sale of those two.

Lol at the height argument, even the link quoted by tiger666 has him at 5 11 (1.81m).

Who knows re his ability and knees, but seems a much more finished priduct than the N' boys. With Son away on international duty, no backup striker at all and little prospect of martial, then I can see the logic.

If 27 million is 'rummaging through the bargain basement' then I think we have lost touch completely with reality.

The players we need to really improve us are not in the 25m bracket but in the 60-80m bracket. So yes, while 25m is a lot of money, in this context it's bargain basement...

If West ham are interested then let them have him. We need better than this guy.
arent west ham willing to pay just players not willing to come, dont forget the manager maybe a draw and this guy maybe a lanzini
Plea is a pellegrini buy and may well be worth the money. Dismissing a player because west ham are interested is ridiculous.

have to agree players that fit our system rather than how much they cost

The Twitter link I looked at regarding West Ham going after Mr Plea was broadly ridiculed by West Ham fans who know that their board becomes all 'Charlie Big Potatoes' every summer and Gold/Sully/Brady go for the headlines to try and sell more season tickets.

Is this guy headline making? I'd seriously never heard of him before we were linked?

This has a Vincent Janssen feel about it (the possible transfer, not that the players are comparable) Plea carries the extra baggage of two fairly serious injuries.

Can't say I am impressed the way things are currently shaping up.

https://statsbomb.com/2017/07/identifying-ligue-1s-next-big-breakout-talents-4-alassane-plea/

Article is a year old, but you get the gist of it...he seems to be improving still.

Even in this article praising him the author suggested Southampton was his level.

Overall I can see why we are considering this guy, ticks a lot of boxes - injury concerns aside - but he doesn't really seem to fit the profile we set out for this summer. If we do sign him I'll back him and hope for the best.

If we start to get ITK on a serious CM upgrade like Kovacic or Milinkovic-Savic I think people would get more interested in us signing this guy.

I'd much rather Malcom if we are making a signing from Ligue 1 however, or a Fekir or Rabiot if possible for us.

I’d much rather we buy players we can’t afford and won’t get too...

I must say I'm shocked at the amount of professional scouts we have on here

Not really anybody purporting to be a professional scout - just people on a football forum having opinions on football players.

Hardly shock inspiring.
