If we let Pritchard slip from our grasp I will be more pissed than if we don't get any of the big name signings we are after.

IMO, this is the best crop of young players we have had, the best coached group we have had. Best prepared to step up and perform competently. More than anything I would love to see us start giving some of them chances in the first team squad, than buying any more stop gap Dempseys'.

I'm not suggesting all of them will be stars or even long term solutions, but neither are many of the players we are buying, and many of them aren't as well coached as our development group.

The new contract is great news.

It is - but his current one ran out in 12 m onths time.

Next Summer, unless he's told he's staying in the Spurs first team squad, I'd imagine he'll seek pastures new - and with a year left on his new contract we will need to sell him. Hopefully he'll show enough at Championship Brenttford to join the PL in 15/16, and with us (if not recalled in the January TW) !.

The man's nine month younger than Eriksen and ten months younger than Lamela. Why don't we give him a chance in the first team rotation?

Because he's average, he showed glimpses of what he can do at Swindon but he's not a world beater, while being near their ages physically, he's no where near those 2 players mentally in how they both read the game.

fair

in which case we badly need some improvements to our youth coaching because we keep having "the next big thing" turn out to be pretty average. in two decades we've had two bonafide successes come out of our academy, and one of them we stole from west ham

We've held onto Mason, Falque and Ceballos too long.
Now they're blocking the next group of players coming up, as I asume Pritchard will in coming years.

Depends what you mean by successes. Livermore, Caulker and Townsend all becoming full internationals under us, even if we decided two sell to of them for £16m.

Pretty disappointing that he hasn't even been involved for pre-season first before making a decision on whether to loan him out.

Care to elaborate on your eloquent point?
To be precise, you CAN recall, but if so, the player is not allowed to actually play more games for the remainder of the season. Thus, a break clause for a season long loan (which this is) doesn't make any sense.

That isn't right surely?

Can you point me to where in any literature it says you can't play a player who has returned early from a season long loan?

FA's standardised rules, section 6.6 for temporary transfers (loans).
I'd post a link but it simply leads to your computer downloading a PDF-file, so I'll save you the trouble.

"6.6.3 Long Term Loan Transfers – [A Conference National Club may have up to eight (8) Long
Term Loan Transfers per season, a maximum of which four (4) must be aged 23 or under on
30 June prior to the start of the Playing Season, and a maximum of four (4) aged over 23 on
30 June prior to the start of the Playing Season. Conference North and Conference South]
Clubs may have up to a maximum of four (4) Long Term Loan Transfers of any age during a
Playing Season.
Long Term Loan Transfers shall be for a full Playing Season; or from any date prior to 31st
August to any date between 1st and 31st January; or from any date between 1st and 31st
January (the January transfer window) to the end of the Playing Season.
A Player on Long Term Loan may not be recalled, except for a goalkeeper or where the
Player is to be transferred permanently by the Club (or club) holding his registered
contract. A Player other than a goalkeeper so recalled cannot be permitted to play for the
Club (or club) holding his registration after such recall until the end of the Playing Season.

Players so recalled can only be replaced by a further Long Term Loan with permission from
the Company. Long Term Loan Transfers will not count against the number of Short Term
Loan Transfers.
To extend the period of any long term loan transfer a further National League System
Temporary Transfer Form or FA form H3 must be completed and copies sent as directed
above.
The Competition shall not approve more than two (2) Long Term Loan transfers to or from
any one club, including Premier League and Football League Clubs, at any one time."
