POK thinking West Ham looks the most likely destination unfortunately

You can see why that would be an appealing move for the player.

Benrahma, Bowen, both talented young players who have stepped up a league to West Ham and established themselves as quality Premier League-standard players very quickly in recent years.

If Bristol City only want £25m for him, you've got to think there's something that can be done, especially when you look at the surplus players we've got who could be used as part of a deal - Tanganga, Rodon, or Spence/Scarlett on loan all spring to mind.

But maybe - in the same way we didn't sign Connor Wickham when Kane was coming through - the club doesn't want to block Devine's path to the first team with a signing who he would be in direct competition with.

I think Bournemouth would be a great move over West Ham (under Moyes) personally.

Iraola is a very progressive manager who Scott could really thrive under him.

I think the issue is its still 25m from the transfer budget and we need to improve defence as first priority. This isn't a player who is going to go straight into the team necessarily. Once we've improved the first team more then we may be in position down the line to spend a bit on young prospects like this. 25m on one for the future is a bit much for this window.

I appreciate that our funds are limited, and that Scott potentially could be the next Connor Wickham rather than the next Grealish/Maddison. However, he appears to represent a good risk/reward option IMO. Unless he bombs epically, I reckon that we should stillbe able to recover a decent portion of our initial outlay, even if he does not quite cut it (like Sess before he pulled his hammy). No idea if AP actually rates him or not though.

Problem with clubs like Bournemouth is that they’ll likely be near the bottom, Iraola could be great for his progression, but he’s also just as likely to be sacked by Christmas and replaced with a dinosaur like Big Sam out of desperation.

West Ham would be a steady eddie choice. As would somewhere like Palace. I personally think we’d need another 8 of Lo Celso goes. So he’d likely get decent minutes here too.

All valid points and yes he'd make an excellent understudy to Maddison in the 8/10 hybrid.

Don't subscribe either that for £15m we'd be in for him yet £25m is a step too far - I just get the sense that Ange prefers other candidates like Gallagher.

Isn't Devine that 8/10 hybrid?
I've seen Scott play a few times and admittedly not as much as many have seen him, but, I've actually been more impressed in Devine than Scott when they have played together. He always seems to have the uncanny knack of finding space

but Devine and Scott are midfielders so they can probably play together

Honestly he could be full of potential but for now I'm happy with Devine, Sarr and Skipp. I think we need to focus on first team as priority now. I have concerns about how long until Bentancur is fully recovered and I'm not sure Hojbjerg is ideal for the football Ange will play. We need a first choice and then when Bentancur returns there's great competition. Ideally we need a midfielder to come straight in if Hojbjerg is sold.

Thing is it's easy to say "we'll regret it when he's worth 100m in 5 years" but he'll only be worth that much if he goes to a club where he gets regular game-time and can develop.

If we think he can contribute to the first team and there's a path for him to become a regular starter then great, sign him up. If not then both him, and us, would be wise to look elsewhere.

If he signs then isn't getting in the team it could easily be another Spence situation where a talented, highly rated youngster gets wasted on our bench or farmed out on loan. I wouldn't be at all surprised if we sold Spence within the next year or so and then in 3-4 years time he's worth 60-70m+ after going to a team where he actually plays and develops into a top class full-back.

They're different types of players though.

Devine is more of an out and out attacking mid who would play in the same kind of position as Maddison in Ange's 4-3-3.

Where as Scott would play more in the link 8 role where Bentancur will likely play.

So Scott and Devine would actually play in the midfield 3 together as they develop, with a DM behind them.

They do for England so there’s a system where it can work. Suppose it’s whether he can offer what Ange wants now.

My crude guess is that this guy is ahead of Devine re development by a significant margin.

Just a guess mind you.

I think this guy looks great personally

Bournemouth definitely doing all the hard work here before a bigger club pounce when they hear of a fee that'll get accepted

Think Bournemouth could be a great move for him, actually.

They seem to be moving in the right direction and making some good acquisitions (both on and off the pitch). And you imagine he'd be starting almost every game if he went there.

If he goes to West Ham there's every chance Moyes does his usual thing and picks experience and physicality over talent and he ends up warming the bench, whereas Wolves seem to be a total basketcase atm.

Wolves will be in a relegation scrap.
Already sold talent off and are reported to have next ot nothing to spend becuase they needed to sell to meet ffp

Yeah looks grim for them. Surely Lopetegui walks too if there's no investment or potential to improve?

Think any upcoming players like Scott would be wise to steer clear. Or at least make sure to have a decent relegation clause in their contract.
