He´s a player that, if he were to be the big "superstar" signing of this window, would be underwhelming to say the least - bit like back in 2005, all reputation and glitter, and destined to eventually either downright fail or at least flatter to deceive, a modern-day David Bentley (whom I liked) - however, as a squad/impact player, he´d complement what we have, and with players like Son and Kane around him, his end product or at least assist-rate would go up, I believe. so I´m in if the price is right as he offers something we don´t have in that form.

then again, I do have a bit of a weak spot for that kind of player - sometimes it´s more entertainment than end product which is of course frustrating most of the times, but whenever it´s all sparks it´s great to witness.

also, i feel we should add quality players who won´t participate in the world cup (I have ASM not down for France). just to make sure we´ll have some rested quality players in the first week after the WC - we´ll have a lot of players who´ll need a rest after the tournament

Not picking on you here, but this keeps coming up a lot.

For starters, most of our key players (Kane, Son etc...) will be in the frame to play at least 30 competitive games in the 21 weeks between 6th August and 31st December. So that's an average of 1.5 games per week. This is across the Premier League, Champions League, Carabao Cup and World Cup. Some of those fixtures will end up falling as 3 games inside of 7-9 days. Once the new year starts the schedule barely lets up any further, with an additional 21 Premier league games and likely a minimum of another 6+ cup games. So that's a further 27 games in 21 weeks. That's not including any international games that aren't WC fixtures, which there will be some of across the season.

Conservatively then there's about 60 games across 40 weeks for most of our key players.

Between that, injuries and the 5 sub rule, every single player in our squad will get a decent run of games this season.
Don't disagree with any of that but with the World Cup coming up would players who have WC aspirations and have regular starts at their current clubs want to move unless they are first choice at their new club . Looks like ASM hasn't made the French international team so far and at 25 years old makes you wonder why not, of course a massive pay rise could be the answer to him joining us.

Not for me. I've watched him quite a lot and despite being exciting, his output isn't what it should be for someone with obvious ability. The fact that Newcastle fans dont seem too bothered at the prospect of him leaving, says all you need to know.

I saw someone here mention they'd rather him over Richarlison - I dont get that at all. I'd rather Richarlson all day. Richarlison is better in almost every department.

I mean Dembele hardly makes the team right now, it's a very high bar. Playing at a team like Newcastle is good in terms of game time, but bad in terms of exposure, the majority of France players are at Champions League clubs.

I agree but getting quality players to be back up is not always that simple. Remember the reported story when Poch tried to get Morata , it's reported that Morata said " Why do you need me you have Harry Kane "

The game has changed, teams used to operate with smaller squads but given how the major English clubs now have an ever growing dominance of European competitions in addition to taking all domestic competitions seriously, the need to both have and utilise a bigger squad is becoming more and more apparent.

Whenever I think about whether this link is legitimate my mind instantly goes to this clip. Of him basically dancing against palace.

I am not sure how Conte would feel about that.

He'd run on and taser him.

I really don't rate him. I think he's a fun, flair, player but not a particularly effective one. The utter drab that Newcastle have been churning out for years makes his little bit of quality seem far better then it actually is. We need more players who can change games from the bench. I would prefer we keep Bergwin (dont think he wants to stay mind) or invest the money elsewhere. Willing to be proven wrong here. Love watching him!

The idea that he wont come due to risk of lacking game time doesnt strike me as likely though. The guy has talked up his chances of winning ballon d'or! He would fancy his chances of steaking his claim and showing his worth in the CL. This isnt a bad thing. Players need a bit of arrogance. My worry is when he isn't starting he might kick up a fuss.

5 goals and 5 assists in the league is not a bad return. I was someone who thought Traore would potentially be a good signing. I feel a good dribbler with some pace is something we could do with as an option.

If the £35m release clause is true and he's up for the move I wouldn't be against it.

I don't see this one happening though. My guess is Newcastle will offer him a better contract to stay.
5 goals and 5 assists almost all in the first half of the seasons when teams were attacking Newcastle creating space in behind and one v one situations a player like him can exploit. He loses the ball a lot. 2.6 dispositions a game. Thats about twice as much as Adama Traoré who has glue on his feet but while its an often made comparison its not quite right (Adama is an explosive powerful touchline dribbler, Saint-Max is more of a tricky flair player who can pick out a pass or create the space to manufacture a chance). Our most dispossessed player is Harry Kane with 1.6.

The idea he would be good for sides that pack their backline im not convinced. Yes he adds a bit of unpredictability but he also is going to lose the ball a lot giving counter attacking chances to the opponent. Its true that he will be less isolated at Tottenham so you would expect that to go down. Its also true that a lot of very good players lose the ball a lot (Zaha, Salah, Neymar etc). But second most dispossessions in the league and not an amazing return to show for it. I expect him to frustrate the fans as much as delight them. Already see some Newcastle fans turning on him a bit towards the end of the season.

Thing is you can sign pacy players like him anywhere nowadays. There are younger players who are cheaper and can probably do as well as him.

Got to be honest, he is brilliant to watch. One of the few players in the league that is worth the entrance money. I don't about his work rate or ethic but he is good entertainment. If he ticks all the other boxes then I would love him at spurs.
