Alvaro Negredo
Age: 23
Club: Real Madrid
Nationality: Spanish
Position: Striker
A one-time regular of Real Madrid’s B team, a goal record of one in two in Spain’s second tier encouraged La Liga minnows Almeria to move for the striker. And sure enough he repaid them by scoring 13 times in his debut top-flight season. Flash in the pan? Not even close – he scored another 19 in his second year at the Andalusia side.

Real Madrid activated a clause in his contract allowing them to resign the striker for just €5 million, but it’s expected they’ll be looking to sell him straight back out again for a tidy profit.

He’s a big unit at 6ft 1in, strong, good in the air, brilliant at holding the ball up and reads the game superbly – pretty much the perfect fit for the Premier League.

He’s expressed a desire to join Liverpool in recent months, but Spanish duo Villarreal and Valencia said to both be keen to keep him in La Liga, while Marca have this week claimed his agent has spoken to Tottenham about a possible move to White Hart Lane.

Yes please.

MARCA also believes, despite Liverpool`s insistence to the contrary, that Alvaro Negredo could be the key to the Alonso transfer and that a swap deal with Liverpool would make up the shortfall between Liverpool`s valuation of Alonso and the amount Real are prepared to pay. Marca also reports that Negredo`s agents held talks with representatives of both Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur in London yesterday. (Negredo is also reportedly a target for Villarreal, but the Spanish side are aware of the competition for his signature and are already speaking with alternatives, writes Marca, with Gonzalo Bergesio of San Lorenzo in Argentina at least one possibility.)

The perfect partner for defoe. Big, strong, hardworking and great at hold up play. He has always scored goals too. Build for the premier league and only 23.

Perfect signing. Infinitley better than Crouch, K. jones.

Yes please. Would in many ways prefer Negredo to Huntelaar. He's more what we need and would be a quality signing to partner Defoe.

Maybe in Spain yes, but England you are only guessing. Crouch can and has scored in the PL.

Physically it seems like he'd adjust well to the PL, but iirc he isn't exactly pacy. Then again neither is Crouch.

I think he would be an awesome signing, can't really see it happening though

This is one of the few realistic links between us and madrid this summer. Negredo seems an excellent player although I have admittedly only seen him 3-4 times so will reserve judgement. However, Graham Hunter of Sky Sports talks very highly of him and to be fair Hunter knows his la liga. Wouldn't susprise me at all to see Negredo and Heinze come in from Madrid however personally I am being cautious as I do believe he may end up at Vilarreal if he decides to stay in Spain. Dont rule Atletico out either if Kun and/or Forlan go.

It was Marca that claimed we'd signed Garcia from Espanyol last summer, so I wouldn't get over-excited by this.

Would like this not as much as Fernando Llorente mind.
I think it is unlikely mainly because I believe Madrid will try and use him in their dealings with either Valencia or Liverpool.

No player is guaranteed to suceed when changing leagues granted, but my opinion is that this guy is build for the prem and ideal as our berbatov replacement. I would much rather us try and unearth another gem like berbs for 12+mil than spend the same on a tried and tested Crouch.

Dont get me wrong, I like crouch. But this guys different gravy. IMO.

Llorente would be superb. Yeah, just read on daily mail website that Negredo has been offered to liverpool as part of a deal for Alonso.

If he's stupid enough to go and sit on the Anfield bench and he thinks that will actually further his career then he's not worth having anyway.

He only needs to take a look at our very own Robbie Keane's last 12 months to see what that does to a good footballer.
