this is the sort of player we need by the looks of things. And realistcly the sort of player I think we can get too.... lets hope Man City stay the F away and let us have this one!!

:clap:Yes Please, rather him than Fernando Llorente. Plays alot more games and has a better goalscoring record.

Would like this not as much as Fernando Llorente mind.
I think it is unlikely mainly because I believe Madrid will try and use him in their dealings with either Valencia or Liverpool.

Im curious - You mentioned Llorente the day before the info came out that we were interested in the press? Coincidence? Or had we been linked previously, I'm pretty sure we weren't?

If it is Pool as part of the Alonso deal Negredo should llok at what happened to Keane there. It seems they don't really want another striker.
Mind you at least negredo speaks the language up there.

Who would replace Alonso? Is Lucas ready to step up?
I don't think so, If I was Benitez I'd look for a like for like replacement in the deal as apposed to Negredo.

Tottenham have held talks with Real Madrid about signing 23-year-old striker Alvaro Negredo, who has also been linked with Liverpool in a possible swap deal with midfielder Xabi Alonso.

This is inthe Times today. I personally feel like this is the way to go, he's a player that will be behind even Huntelaar in the pecking order at Real but there is no doubting his quality, he can do it all....he may just be a player that we can push a deal through for without it gettin totally overblown, plus he's likely not a big enough name for Man City to ruin it for us either!

Would be a great signing at only 23 years old.

But Keane couldn't play with Torres (or in Liverpool's system anyway) whereas Negredo would be an understudy for him as he is very capable of leading the line in a 4-5-1

The offer was supposed to be Negredo and Gago + cash for Alonso. Gago would be an ideal replacement for Alonso for Liverpool. If Liverpool fend that off though I'd love to see us go for the pair - they'd complete our side.

if that happens ill be surprised.

Negredo worth at least 10 mil
Gago at least 15 mil

alonso at absolute most about 25 mil.

Lee Watson writes...
it`s a case of last week`s stories rumbling on and, as often tends to happen when things are quiet, stories that surfaced in Spain and were subsequently picked up in Britain, are now being picked up again by the Spanish press who are unaware that they are reporting on their own story. This is the case with the Negredo link with Spurs: Marca reported that the Real Madrid player had met with Tottenham`s representatives last Thursday; the British media ran that story the day after Marca on Friday – and now Marca are now reporting that “According to the British press, Negredo`s agent has held talks with Spurs.” And so it goes on.

20m euros bid gone in according to AS today:

Cule-spur on GG (a bona fide ITK for Spanish football, if not particularly us) reckons it is us but they are leaking details of it to try and draw in other bidders.

€20m!? Huntelaar is going for not that much more but he's at least proven at the top level.

Spanish press put out a story yesterday that Madrid had accepted a 20 mill bid from Porto who have money because of the sale of Lisandro Lopez and Porto are likely to sell more of their stars.
It looks like a bidding war is being encouraged.

Really? Is the Eredivisie top level?

In La Liga Negredo has scored 32 in 70 while Huntelaar has 8 in 20. Huntelaar may have the international caps, but Negredo is 2 years younger and plays for (probably) the best national side in the world in the same position as Torres.

Negredo is also a target man, whereas Huntelaar is just an out-and-out goalscorer. Negredo also has the physical attributes for the EPL. Even for the same amount I'd go for Negredo out of the two.
