He got 5th and a cup final last year, he's only just been allowed to purchase any attacking players whatsoever by his chairman, one of whom has hit the ground running. We've played alright so far and after this win we're ok for points relative to most of our rivals. For someone who is so critical of Levy it seems strange to fall into his trap of allowing the manager to become a scapegoat. Especially a mere 6 games in having (undeservedly) lost once.
I'm not falling into the trap of allowing the manager to become a scapegoat, I haven't called for his head. I'm just saying when AVB was eeking out narrow wins with not great performances he had a ton of heat on him.

Anyway this is the Amnesty thread, so discussion over.

I hate that we play Dier on cm.

Think it stifles attack when we are in position, the transition from defence to midfield is.ponderous and often results in long balls due to the anchor midfielder having no passing range and not the.movement of a proper dynamic midfielder
It also puts too much pressure on his partner to control the tempo of the game and this will get more and more apparent against teams who like to play through the middle

I know there's a Dier love In but....diplomatic immunity! :D

AVB didn't have the youngest team in the league....but he did have the league's best player. Our expectations and approach to squad development has changed, hence more heat at the time on AVB than there is now on Poch.

So Poch is hiding behind youngsters. I can't respect guy like that. Levy's yes-man.

Very odd that this got a couple of agrees but a post of mine in the match day thread saying pretty much the same thing gets slaughtered?

Other than the goal I struggle to see what other clean cut chances were created yesterday?
It's because I'm so popular, just check out the ratings I got in the Ratings thread :)

Firstly, don't worry about ratings. Secondly, I think we have to accept that SC can't deal with anything other than positivity after a victory. Anyone who points out any room for improvement is going to get slaughtered, unless you do something which I refer to as "a BC" which is spend copious amounts of time to write some wordy garbage masquerading as deep analysis that sounds like you might know more than the other members and which nobody can be bothered to read in full so you get a free pass.

This threads a joke. People just rock up for an argument. No need to justify your post in an amnesty thread.

The sarcey rantings are even worse...

I agree actually. I would hope though that is only the start of his journey there and he improves. He is not without merit in terms of the offensive side of the game but yeah, he needs to get better with time because about the only DM who could get away with being just a destroyer/defensively sound player was Makalele and he was stupidly good at it. Then again, even if his passing was simply and to the point, he was a hell of an athlete. So yeah, you'd want Dier's passing/vision to come on somewhat and if it doesn't no doubt he'll revert to a CB and the club will bring someone else in.

Give him a bit of time yet though. Honestly if Moose or whoever else plays beside him can do this biz I'd be happy enough for him to help disrupt the other team and play a quick, simple 5 yarder to Moose/whoever every time.

Matter of opinion, we dominated the game without really looking like conceding aside two isolated moments. Without giving it much thought and only really watching the game from behind the goal in the North Stand I can remember:

Kane header in the first minutes
Dele shot saved well and Kane's shot/cross avoiding everyone across the box.
Disallowed goal
Lamela free kick well saved.

I agree its not really the free flowing Redknapp style but I do enjoy us dominating the midfield and winning the hard tackles. I think the Son signing is going to be the catalyst for faster breaks and some quicker football. The signs were there in the Palace game we just need to build on it.

Give Poch a Modric and a Bale and he'd have us playing a style of football to get us off our seats this season. Otherwise, we're going to have ups and downs. If we can have many of our downs with a 1-0 win, I'll happily take them.

That first 30 minutes on Sunday was much more like Soton under Poch. In the closing down and pressing sense at least. That's the benchmark we're going for this season, imo. If we can only attain that we'll have a fairly successful year and will have a stupidly good foundation to build on next season.

Not just because the goal today.

I truly believe Vorm is the worst goalkeeper had that I can remember. It's not knee jerk. I've never rated him. He is Gomes sans shot-stopping ability.

He flaps, he can't catch, he stays on his line always, he's an average shot-stopper. I'd sooner we played Kane in goal.

Kane should be a benchwarmer against City. Some fanboys might say he needs rest but real reason is his recent performances.

Kane, if you are reading... Please, stop tweeting and start playing. We need you. :cautious:
