Tottenham Hotspur and Newcastle United will reportedly contest a friendly at the Melbourne Cricket Ground as Ange Postecoglou enjoys a homecoming for the second-straight off-season.

However, the fixture will take place on May 22, three days after the Premier League season concludes.

Fly 24 hours and then play almost straight away?

probably going to wait until they’ve sold 100,000 tickets at $100 a go, and then spring the surprise that it’s the women’s team 😁

Could be the next and last opportunity for a few people (e.g. Gil) to wear a Spurs shirt ahead of summer departures. Perhaps a reminder to potential suitors that they still exist.

Great - so we will play the last game of the season with players dreading the 72 hours in front of them.

I'm sure they will be ready yo give everything they have!

Be amazed if any internationals going to the Euro's will go. It'll be a pretty make shift side imo.
Me too. Wonder if sponsors/Aussie authorities are taking that into account when paying our appearance fees etc.

We’ll see what the AFL think about this
The MCG has AFL games scheduled for Saturdays May 18 and 25, so the grounds crew will have plenty of time to do the necessary work before and after the Spurs/Bar-codes game. The AFL won't suffer financially, so it shouldn't be a problem.

Thing is you'll still get Romero, Son, Sarr, Bissouma, Richarlison, Kulu etc. There will be more than enough names there.

The non-stop Qantas flight from London Heathrow to Perth takes 16 hours 45 minutes, covering 14,500 km. The quickest British Airways, Qatar, Emirates or Singapore Airlines flights to Perth take just under 20 hours, stopping in the Middle East or South East Asia en route.

The club have plastered players like Maddison, VDV and Romero over this advert and none are likely to even bother travelling due to international commitments.

Just absolutely stinks of greed with little care for the wellbeing of the squad. Shouldn’t be surprised anymore.

Odd one. Newcastle are also playing A-League All Stars 2 days later at Marvel, and Arsenal Women and playing A-League Women All Stars.

our ad says ‘capped off by’ the game against Newcastle. So could there be more still to come out?

That’s great - Perth is still a 4 or 5 hour flight from Melbourne.

I get pre season tours but end of season is just milking every possible opportunity for cash and exposure.
Total disregard for player welfare, they need the time off!

I'd back any player who told them to do one, not that any would.

Piss take. Just schedule a preseason tour if you want.

I was just having a look to see who else is doing an end of season tour and apart from us and the Barcodes I can’t see that any other club is.
Makes it even more ridiculous that we are then back out in Asia seven weeks later!

Manchester United done it last year - at the MCG in Melbourne, same time.

Bayern Munich were scheduled to do it the year before but it got cancelled at the last moment.

I think the Melbourne / Sydney games are timed as part of a festival of football promotion by the A-League and timing wise has to be close to the end of the A-League season, as they don’t restart again until October.
