So is there anything to read into Martial not being in the French squad, given Deschamps has said nobody will be allowed to leave camp to sort transfers.

I'm convinced UTD are out to make another signing that would further congest their front line - and that this signing would be big!

Thus appeasing the fans if Martial was to be sold.

Secondly, just a hunch, what if it was Bale that Utd signed and allowed Martial to leave? If we surrendered our reported first refusal on Bale?

The one thing I see in our favor is the fact Martial has only 2 years left on his contract. 70m now or half that possible in a year might just make United take the money.

I personally think this is not going to happen, but the fat lady hasn't sung yet.

I'd be fine with it. I've already settled with the fact that Bale will never play for us again. And, if it meant we directly improve our squad, it's almost like a bittersweet thing. Also, I love what Bale did for us but his injury history has really put a damper/hindrance on what could have been an incredibly special career.

Alot of people getting very carried away here. Where is this player who couldn't get in a team that finished along way below last season going to get in to our starting XI?

Not that there is any chance he will join us
Pretty silly comment tbh. It doesn't work like that. Martial would be an absolutely incredible signing.

Martial has had a good start to the season but last year he managed 4 goals in close to 30 appearances. Should we be spending 70 mill on a player who will probably appear at Son's expense, a guy who is improving all the time.

Does anyone have a rough figure how much we've made from outgoings so far ?

Walker
Fazio
Bentaleb
McGee
N'jie

Sell on fees
Paulinho
Siggy

would be good to compare with expected incomings prices

Gazza
Sanchez
Foyth
Aurier
Barkley
Sancho

Then with potential sales of janssen, sissoko, wimmer and n'koudou, thats when levy goes for martial?

P.S i would love Sess too, just so we don't miss out on him in future

Walker 45
Njie 5
Faz 3
Bentaleb 17
Sellons 7
77 mill total

In all honesty, 70m for Martial looks really good when you see what Barcelona is prepared to pay for Dembele and Coutinho.

And PSG for Mbappe. I'd happily spend 70m on him.

I can't help but feel very cautious about this one. Generally agree with @ShaunL84 in that it's incredibly unlikely Mourinho will sell him to us. For all his faults, Jose is a smart bloke and will not want to strengthen us whatsoever. Who knows, I hope I'm wrong and the guy is getting senile.

We need a squad. We could realistically sell Sissoko, GKN, Janssen and if we replaced them with Barkley and Martial we have done excellent business. And, once Lamela comes back from the dead, we'd finally have options to really make an impact via substitutions. For the past two seasons we've seen how great of a First XI we have but when it comes time to utilize our depth we have stuttered. This would go a long way towards solving that problem.

Martial is made for us imo. & has always been just a whisker away

I recall listening to Riviera Radio in Monaco must have been august 2 years ago, & they messed up & reported the transfer of martial to Tottenham as having been completed. They ran with it all afternoon

So someone jumped the gun, but it must have been so so close

Not that there's anything in that per sé - but it's been razor close before, The will was obvs there & like Bale to Madrid some matches are just set up to happen one day

I think he'll be a Spurs player one day, if not this year we'll go hard next imo

If it was simply a £70m package, and it's true we're interested, we should bite their hands off.
Can't help thinking that there's more to it than that though, sounds too good to be true in the current climate.

So we should pay Lukaku money for someone who can't get off the bench at United.

Fuck me... It's not 2020 on FIFA Career Mode. He's a talent but has proved nothing yet.

It's enough to turn anyone Bsodl

Anyone who thinks we're going to pull off this deal with around a week of the window left is deluded.

United won't sell to us, Mourinho isn't an idiot.
As JJ has said numerous times deals are over a few months then things go another step so everything is in place to be done. Also Trix has said the same

I'm certain we won't sign him and more concerned that we will have our time wasted trying to pursue him instead of others.

Even though this is an enormous transfer, it won't stop us from getting our other business done. We will likely still see a push (and I believe, a signing) for Ross Barkley. Foyth seems pretty close to finalization and Aurier, judicial system allowing, should happen, too. We all want to see a wide forward signed, but I doubt we are putting all of our eggs in the Martial basket. Now, if we try to make this deal happen all the way up until the last few minutes of the window and ignore other options then yes, we most likely will be screwed if we never actually get Martial.

To be fair a few years back I doubted he'd buy anyone for over £20m. He then bought Soldado and Lamela. He spent £30m on a player we didn't expect to be an automatic first teamer in Sissoko last year and he's just gone and spent £42m on a 21 year old kid. The latter being the most risky transfer we've ever made. I can actually see him spending it now, but what I'm concerned about is whether Mourinho will allow this to happen.

Part of me worries that they're fuckig with us. Trying to play around and waste our time so we don't get anywhere in the market. A bit tin foil hat, I know, but I could see people doing that to their rivals.
