There's an inconsistency about him. Disappears for long periods.

Though he did put it together for the duration of the WC.

I'd rather want Martial all day, but does not surprise me at all with Mourinho.

I assume the Utd board feel the same hence their reluctance to let Martial go!

I have to credit him for what he achieved with Porto in the CL.

Since then, he's become a completely different manager. It's all about the money & getting what he wants for the short term.

I can't stand his 'win at any cost' mentality because it becomes about 'his' results & accomplishments that fuels more corporate backing. Yet it takes football back to the knuckle dragging dark ages. It wasn't meant to be played like that.

He did well with Inter as well. They won CL in 2010.

I think Martial is a better footballer and team player that would link well with other footballers with good footballing brains but that Zaha has more moments of individual brilliance, more physicality and would probably be the one you'd want to get the ball to when it's hard to break teams down due to his trickery and ability to beat a man one vs one.

If i had to choose one or the other it's such a tough call but I think I'd go for Martial, simply because he's 22 and there could be a lot more to come from him. I think Martial's ceiling is higher even if Zaha is ahead of him based on what our team could need at the moment

Yes he did.
But I believe there was a significant difference.
Once he went to Chelsea, he started to have a significant amount of money at his disposal.
From that day forward it has been the case to this day. wherever he has gone: Inter; Real; back to Chelsea & now at ManU.
He's demanded money & top players to build his teams.
That's how he has succeeded.

Porto was a special case.

Porto was a special case.

Mourinhos ability to develop a team style and to find solutions to establish a consistent winning brand of football has been remarkably exposed as other managers have come into the Premier League.

He's done remarkable jobs at Porto, Chelsea & Inter Milan but with football evolving and being focused on a intricate, intelligent passing game in order for brain to overcome brawn he has shown himself to be a rather limited manager that either needs to spend silly boy money to compete or fall back on height as a salvation when his team are struggling to break oppositions down.

It's a logical way to play to use height as an advantage when teams drop deep against you but it doesn't make for pretty viewing which, in my opinion you should be getting at a team like Manchester United. His tactics and capacity to play through teams as football has evolved has been shown to be pretty restricted. I make him the 4th or 5th best domestic manager in charge of the biggest team in the country

That Mirror article quotes PSG as being interested, and says he favours a move there, but surely that's not possible with their FFP situation? I did see a rumour about Cavani leaving but didn't seem very strong.

Evening Standard, who I find one of the most reliable papers for Tottenham news, are saying we won’t pursue Martial because United won’t sell to us and because of the price. I think only the Alderweireld situation might be the thing which changes this and still find that unlikely

Tottenham set to wait on Anthony Martial transfer push after Manchester United star's fallout with Jose Mourinho

Tottenham have no plans to take advantage's of Anthony Martial's situation at Manchester United in the coming days, as they continue to wait for their top-six rivals to finish their transfer business before entering the market.

Martial's relationship with United boss Jose Mourinho has completely broken down after he left their US pre-season tour, officially for the birth of his son, and the Portuguese wants to sell him as soon as possible.

Spurs have a longstanding interest in Martial, who they tried to sign from Monaco before his £57.6million move to Old Trafford in 2015, and Mauricio Pochettino believes he is the perfect competition for Harry Kane because he can also play on the wing.

However, United's executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward does not want to sell Martial to a Premier League rival and United reportedly value him at £80million - beyond Spurs' budget for a single player.

Spurs therefore are not expected to act on their interest in Martial in the next week but they could yet move for him in the last few days of the transfer window, when chairman Daniel Levy prefers to do business, if his situation remains the same.

United's interest in centre-half Toby Alderweireld could also be a factor, although they are thought to be prioritising Leicester's Harry Maguire over the Belgian.

Levy is aware Spurs cannot compete with the likes of Chelsea, who are also interested in Martial, United and Man City on transfer fees and wages, and he is prepared to wait for Spurs' rivals to conclude their business before moving in the window.

Spurs did similarly last summer, finally acting on longstanding interest in Ajax's Davinson Sanchez when they were confident they would not be gazumped by another club.

Questioned about the club's lack of transfer business here in Los Angeles this week, Pochettino promised Spurs would make signings but insisted they would not do anything rash.

Last time Dan KP poopooed a transfer the player was at our training ground that same day (Moura). Though I have got the feeling his contacts have gotten better since joining the Standard.

This is going to end well...

I do think it is ridiculous to suggest that we're waiting for the other Top 6 clubs to finish their business because at least United and Chelsea will be doing business until deadline day.

Yeah. Today's stories very much feel like the club have reached out to their core reporters (Dan KP, Ally G, new ESPN bloke whose name I forget) to put out there their stance on Martial and the transfer window.

Yeah i was thinking this too. It's either that or all those journos are using the same ghostwriter. The wording on each of the individual stories that I've seen are very similar.

Good that we're using non-HG spots on two backup keepers, Llorente and N'Koudou rather than potentially world class players innit.

That can't be the actual reason, surely.
