Anthony Martial won't be sold to Chelsea or Tottenham if Manchester United star decides to leave Old Trafford

The French forward has been upset at a lack of first team football and could leave with no sign Jose Mourinho will make way for him

Anthony Martial will not be allowed to join Chelsea or Tottenham – even if they are prepared to pay in excess of £70million for him.

Disillusioned Martial has been told he can leave Manchester United, but only on their terms - for the right club and the right price.

United are unwilling to let Martial join a Premier League rival, even if they may be willing to go above United's £70m valuation of the forward.

Jose Mourinho has reluctantly accepted Martial's desire to leave United this summer after three years, with the player seeking a new challenge.

Mourinho knows there is no value in keeping a disaffected player, although United will ensure Martial only leaves on their terms and will demand at least £70m for him.

The United boss has informed executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward of his belief that selling Martial is now the right move, to give the Reds time to bring in a replacement before the August 9 transfer deadline.

Mourinho tried to sign Ivan Perisic from Inter Milan last summer and could resurrect his interest on the back of the Croatia winger's impressive displays in helping his country make it to the World Cup final in Russia.

As well as Chelsea and Tottenham, Bayern Munich and Paris St Germain are interested in Martial, with United now willing to negotiate with both.

United paid Monaco £36m for Martial on transfer deadline day in the summer of 2015, with that figure rising to £58m with add-ons, which is why they want at least £70m for him.

Despite his indifferent form last season and his failure to hold down a regular place under Mourinho, United know Martial's age and profile means they can command a big fee for him.

Really hope we can patch things up with Toby to fuck them over now. Or somehow sell abroad if not. Enjoyed the post-Berbatov period of Levy refusing to deal with that arrogant club.

This might just be hopeless optimism, but surely if he puts in a transfer request but refuses to go to anywhere other than Tottenham, they would have to sell or end up losing millions in wages?

I suppose they can afford to do that. And if they activate this apparent extention, it could be damaging his career to refuse to move abroad.

The way I see it is that now that he's been given the green light to leave that's a very good development.

Understandably Utd don't want to sell to a prem rival but IMO the kicker in all of this is Toby Alderweireld and it gives us an edge. Not concerned by Chelsea, they've got nothing to offer Utd like we have in Toby (unless they overpaid) but the player would likely choose us over them anyway - love being able to say that now.

We've been holding out on Utd with regards to Toby's valuation (75m I believe) but now that Martial is allowed to leave I could see us working out an agreement which sees us sell Toby for a lower fee as long as they will allow Martial to come to us. The issue is that I don't think they budge on their valuation of Martial.

If we're willing to do it then I could see it playing out that we drop Toby's valuation down closer to 60m and allow him to go to Utd but we still have to pay close to 70m for Martial. When all is said and done you're getting Martial for 10m which is a digustingly good bargain.

Seeing Toby in red will suck but he's 29, injury prone and we already have Sanchez in his place and that kid is gonna be world class.

To me this is an absolute no brainer.

I'll repeat what I've said for months : in my opinion Toby will be a Utd player by the end of the window and Martial will either stay or be playing somewhere other than Spurs.

Hope I'm wrong.

I agree with you, although this feels like big poker game between us and Man Utd. The ultimate is levy winning by signing Martial and keeping Alderweireld. Very difficult but not impossible. I bet he’d love to get one over them.

Why can’t we get a foreign club to buy him, instantly loan him to us for the season and then buy him next summer ?

You know this must be going through Levy’s mind....

Jose would be more than happy to wait a year to get Alderweireld instead of letting us get Martial. I'm certain of that.

The last thing Mourinho needs is giving one of his title rivals a missing piece of their jigsaw and to see Martial go onto be the next KDB, Lukaku or Salah. Believe me Jose being the snake he is would have thought this through and probably realised that saying no to a Toby/ Martial deal will save him hassle during the season and plenty of face. He loses nothing if he doesn't go through with the deal and a lot if the deal happens and Martial smashes it more than Sanchez & Rashford this season. The guy ain't stupid, if anything I think he's stringing us along

And then we'll make a late bid for Zaha on deadline day only for it to be rejected.

Happy days :p

10M plus the best centre back in the premier, not exactly the biggest bargain in the world, but I see your point.

I see the logic that Martial could play instead of Kane when needed or otherwise play as a wide player, however with Son / Lamela / Moura already being able to cover the wide role I am not sure we should be going all out for him.

I'm really starting to feel that Martial is this window's Ross Barkley.
Not for me, I thought we would actually get RB but never have I thought we would actually pull of Martial. Grealish has all the markings of a Ross Barkley but really, I can’t see that not happening even if it comes down to the last day.

If Man U are prepared to do a swap I'd bring Toby's price down by a further £10m to sweeten the deal. I'm sorry but if we are able to get away with getting one of the hottest young players there is due to some leverage on a player who gets to go where he wants for a relatively minimal fee next summer I say use Toby as a bargaining chip and don't get greedy with it, he's already seen what getting greedy does to deals and transfer windows and this isn't any old deal, it's one where you're gaining existing leverage on a deal done previous which is what I think Spurs should be doing for all their top players when linked with a move to a bigger club.

Still baffles me to this very day why out of all the deals that have seen the likes of Carrick, Berbatov, Modric & Bale leave we've only done this once and even then it was a loan deal for Frazier Campbell. There's a trick being missed here and it's time for Daniel to realise he ain't playing Battleships with this particular deal. Sometimes the best negotiations are done swiftly so the actual deal can get done

Stick it on the table that you'll give them Alderweireld + £25m, say the deals there to be had by Thursday or the deals off and we move on to other targets and they don't get Toby this time around

I too have a concern over Grealish, but I do think it's unfair to compare Barkley as if he didn't rip his hammy off the bone I think Levy would have eventually paid up.
