So, Mourinho says he won't force Martial to stay blah blah.

I see this as a little trail of crumbs to lead us away from signing anyone else so that they can slam the shutters down at the last minute. Jose is as crafty as he is paranoid.

We should be focusing on other targets instead of clinging to a pipe dream. Jose knows what he's doing the little prick tease. He called a woman trying to treat one of his injured players a daughter of a whore! We all know what he's capable of as a man.

Bin the Martial dream off unless they lift this game they're playing very shortly and move onto other targets that aren't clinging by an imaginable thread

More crazy quotes from Mourinho

@utdreport

José Mourinho on the remainder of the transfer window: “One thing is what I want and another thing is what is going to happen.” #mulive
Apparently this is in response to Ribalta leaving suddenly. I'm not quite sure how/if this effects United's business, or if Mourinho is just being dramatic.

You are underrating Martial - I really think he is a fabulous talent who would walk into our team.
In your opinion, that is. In my opinion I believe I am accurately assessing what has been his performance in the PL thus far.

I don't underrate his threat but I do realize that it is very one-dimensional; off the left, receiving the ball up high and driving at 1 defender. Nothing else to his game...shunt him down the channel onto his left and his threat decreases exponentially. Walker showed this time and again because Martial's game is limited, head down and driving.

I tend to agree, but think he's got a bit of trickery in link up play that adds to this. Not to mention he's only 22 and obviously has room to grow. I've also heard a lot from Man U fans that his off ball movement is pretty poor. I don't know that he's better than Son as they stand today.

Yeah, I really don’t get the love for him either. If it’s not happening for him in a game he can disappear. That’s not just the result of Mourinho I thought that when Van Gaal was there as well. He’s obviously has some very good attributes but I’m not convinced about his personality on the pitch. I don’t see a real drive or hunger about him. That’s why I’m surprised there is a lot of people who seem to have no issue spending big on him but not Zaha who maybe doesn’t look as silky on the ball but has a hunger to his game is a real driving force and a big prescense on the pitch as well as a constant threat who I think the opposition will find it harder to shut out of a game. All opinions though I guess

I think it's so dumb that Spurs and United would be unwilling to do business with each other in a mutually beneficial way. If they sell us Martial and we sell them Alderweireld it benefits both clubs. It's pretty basic game theory - cooperation, regardless of relative benefits, tends to ensure absolute benefits to both parties.

You mean the same martial that we attempted to buy before ManUtd blew us out of the water?
They didn't blow us out of the water, we wouldn't pay the price so walked away and then after a while United made an approach and paid even more than we'd refused but we were not in competition at the time.

I don't want either for the reasons you and @heelspurs has posted, and for the reasons I've posted in the Zaha thread

When the rational outcome makes sense but doesn't come about then look to the irrational for reasons. United don't want to lose face with this transfer. It plays into the 'Jose and youngsters' narrative and it also hurts their brand as a stop for young players. They over paid for him in the first place to flex their financial muscles and are now paying for it.

This they are terrified that Martial will become the next KDB/Salah that Mourinho let go. As he's an attacker he would get more attention even if both played equally well for their clubs.

Martial would be the perfect signing, he could play as cover for Kane and play in the wide roles.

Poch knows this, Levy knows this. I think we're putting all of our eggs in one basket.

Just like ourselves with Toby, if United keep the player (even if they trigger the 1 year extension in his contract), his value plummets as the clock will be ticking down on his contract.

Always a sound approach in football as in life. It's the reason I have been spending my life savings on the powerball. It's bound to come off one of these times and just think of the rewards when it does.

Anthony Martial won't be sold to Chelsea or Tottenham if Manchester United star decides to leave Old Trafford

The French forward has been upset at a lack of first team football and could leave with no sign Jose Mourinho will make way for him

Anthony Martial will not be allowed to join Chelsea or Tottenham – even if they are prepared to pay in excess of £70million for him.

Disillusioned Martial has been told he can leave Manchester United, but only on their terms - for the right club and the right price.

United are unwilling to let Martial join a Premier League rival, even if they may be willing to go above United's £70m valuation of the forward.

Jose Mourinho has reluctantly accepted Martial's desire to leave United this summer after three years, with the player seeking a new challenge.

Mourinho knows there is no value in keeping a disaffected player, although United will ensure Martial only leaves on their terms and will demand at least £70m for him.

The United boss has informed executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward of his belief that selling Martial is now the right move, to give the Reds time to bring in a replacement before the August 9 transfer deadline.

Mourinho tried to sign Ivan Perisic from Inter Milan last summer and could resurrect his interest on the back of the Croatia winger's impressive displays in helping his country make it to the World Cup final in Russia.

As well as Chelsea and Tottenham, Bayern Munich and Paris St Germain are interested in Martial, with United now willing to negotiate with both.

United paid Monaco £36m for Martial on transfer deadline day in the summer of 2015, with that figure rising to £58m with add-ons, which is why they want at least £70m for him.

Despite his indifferent form last season and his failure to hold down a regular place under Mourinho, United know Martial's age and profile means they can command a big fee for him.
