All of the negativity is sad, but it's also totally understandable. It's something I was worried about when the club put season ticket prices up 30-40% to over a grand for most seats - making us the most expensive team in the world to go and support. If you charge top dollar, fans will expect top levels of performance on the pitch and top investment in the transfer market.

The problem is that this money doesn't come close to enabling that. Increasing the cost of every seat in the non-corporate home areas of stadium over a year by £200 nets the club £10m. That's not the difference between signing Martial or not. It's the difference between taking a punt on a talented League One player who most of the time won't work out, like Dele, or not. But the difference it makes to fan expectations is huge. It's a lot of money for them and they're going to expect improvements whether they're viable for us or not.

Financially we are still well above Everton, but well behind Arsenal and further still behind the other top clubs. That's the way it's going to be for a while longer. And we're burdened with some very mediocre squad players nobody wants, or is willing to pay the fee and wages for.

I do worry that if we have a slightly off year, an iffy start and end up 5th - which is honestly where we should be, we've been overachieving to do better - there's going to be a lot of anger and resentment which will further effect performances, a lot of pressure to get Poch out which would be stupid, and eventually a lot of empty seats which completely nullifies the financial gain anyway.

I won't have a knee-jerk reaction and blame Levy if we have a poor transfer window - it can happen for reasons beyond your control or through the calculated risks which brought us a lot of good, cheap players not coming off this time. But I WILL blame him and where appropriate the management for the two key failures that have put us in this position. The decision to buy average squad players with no resale value and dubious quality like Sissoko and Llorente rather than give youth a chance, now taking up squad room and wages. And the decision to whack up prices and, with them, expectations beyond any reasonable level.

@Primativ
Your season ticket entitles you to watch the games nothing more than that. If you think it's too much, don't buy it there are no promises made to you on your purchase. Tbh I can't be arsed to read your entire post because again, I have said in the post you quoted that Levy will deserve criticism if he fails this window. The selective reading is through the roof this morning though, because I'm clearly not defending anything happening this window. Just pointing out you'd need to be a moron to call for his head off the back of it considering where he has taken us in the last 10 years. Not to mention doing what he's done despite the influx of foreign cash that has skewed the level playing field a lot.
There’s no telling some people mate.

wait so Utd are trying to give us Martial but we're saying no we just want cash?

surely not

We have to wait and see but if they pass on Martial there must be a big signing that is worked on. Otherwise i have no fucking clue what is going on.

Thing is they aren't nutters, and in 5 days time if we are still in the same position we are now I will echoing a lot of what they are saying.

My issue this morning is that nearly everyone who has replied to my posts are picking out anything I'm saying from a positive POV and using it as a spring board to have a pop at the club/Levy, but completely ignoring the fact I'm agreeing with what they are saying in regards to the transfer window, should it stay as it is.

The all have selective reading syndrome!

Well based on the new ITK in the ITK thread I just don't know anymore.

It's never dull being a Spurs fan.

Failing to sign Martial because of Nkoudou and Jansen along with other unnecessary nonHG spots might just end this forum. Would truly be the nuclear scenario. We would never be able to have a civil discussion about any topic without just inaudible screeching lurking in.

That said, take all ITK with a pinch of salt. AliZ or his source could be wrong.

I know Levy is the buzz word around here, but even he wouldn't be that blinkered/short sighted. It's not fathomable.

Agreed, this can’t be true.

I feel like there's some deep level of poetic justice at play with us being unable to act freely in the transfer market due to the squad being bloated with the cheap, non HG failures of previous transfer windows.

I'm more interested in the other non homegrown target piece of itk.

Because then the Martial stuff makes sense. Even if we scrapped all the dead wood, it still leaves us only 2 spots. Possibly for a cm and CB.

After sissoko, llorente,Janssen, nkoudou and maybe dembele, we really don't have any non hg to scrap (ignoring keeper thing).

cant believe that latest news, we surely wouldn't turn martial down due to HG issues. GNK, Jansen, Sissoko etc can rot in reserves if necessary, you don't let a player of Martial quality go due to this

Equally how did we get in this HG issue, we never had this problem before.... agree with what some fans are saying let Vorm go and promote a youth keeper if necessary - just don't fuck this up if true we have a chance for Martial

Yep. Turning down a young French winger who's one of the top youth prospects in Europe, because we've signed a load of shit French wingers, hoping they'd come good is ludicrous. I'm less annoyed about Llorente (with hindsight he wasn't a great fit) as he was an established, quality striker. Sissoko however... I still can't fathom the thinking behind that one.
