Did we have more pace with Parker, Huddlestone, Dempsey and Caulker? To my knowledge nobody else of much significance has gone. Anyway, it's the speed the ball travels which is most important and that is created by accurate passing.

On paper we have the fastest players in the EPL but so far this season and also last season it hasn't been evident.

To me the cause is clear. Under Harry, he said they focused almost exclusively on fitness. The upshot was super-fit players with amazing pace and endurance. Even Bale has never been as fast under AVB as he was in the 2010-2011 season. Not only did we have explosive counter-attacking pace past the 90th minute, but we could keep pressing wave upon wave of forward momentum.

Now, training is entirely different and the effect is clear. Our football is almost pedestrian.

In my opinion, if the first reply in this thread was 'I too am under.wellemed' it could've got a record number of pos reps. Missed opportunity, be ashamed of yourselves.

Also the reason we burnt out for the final third of the season, bad training and zero squad rotation - See Harry Redknapp, David Moyes and Martin O'Neill for more details on how to be good for 66% of a season.

I know its early days and all that, but the lack of pace in our squad now is quite scarey, all over the park we have plodders, from Daws and Verts,at the back to Sandro, Pauli, dems,in the middle,Lennons can still move but nothing like he used to be,Sol up front has no pace to speak of really.

I was really excited with the players we've brought in in you tube world but seeing them play im not very excited at all i mean you dont need time to show your're pace do you ? Willian was a massive lose for us IMO..

Hope im well and truely wrong and the squad come together but i cant see us hitting teams on the break as we have always done,is a completely different style of play necessary ? i think thats what we're going to get.

Fingers crossed we get some pace in before the window closes.

COYS.

How about Solly?
Bit of a feminine way of saying it, but just about acceptable I'd say (y)

Agreed.

Names NOT to call Soldado online;

1. Sol
2. RS9
3. Soldildo.

But seriously, no RS9. Anyone. Thx.
Number 3 sounds like he'd fit in running West Ham. And yeah, RS9 is ridiculous, he hasn't trademarked it ffs. No wonder GB11 wants out with people using that style of name willy nilly.

In fact I've been overwhelmed; and seriously so even if Bale goes and we do not get anybody else in. As it is, we can seriously contend 3rd or 4th place. But if as expected, a few more good to outstanding re-inforcements come in, we'll be serious challengers for the EPL title.

Classis OP title I must say. Well done (y)

The arguments though, I have to disagree with.

Also, please don't call him that, it's Roberto/Bob/Soldado/Bertie, anything other than that

Nope, we must use GOLdado in reference to our new striker (y)

A squad full of new players needs time to gel, but 6 points out of 6 so far is a good start. Lack of pace? not too sure that a lack of pace is an issue. Lack of creativity? still no replacement for VDV yet (you know what I mean), but the window is not yet closed...

Certainly an odd time to post an "oh woe is our plodder laden squad" thread,... and I don't give a toss about willian.

The window is not yet closed and Spurs are marching on!!! COYS!!!! :coffee:

We've not won our opening two games since 05 and we are full of negative threads. Not having a go at you, and yes I do hope (and expect) that we improve, I'm sure we will, but the threads being started are ridiculous!

09-10 we won our opening 4 if I remember correctly! Liverpool, hull, west ham, Birmingham

We only scored 1 goal in the last 10 minutes which won us any points, all season in Harry's final year.

It's much harder to show pace in attack when the opposition is defending deep.
