I don't get all the people that are saying this, I thought in football when a players number is held up then they come off. Isn't that how subs usually work??

I think if the player refuses to leave the field not a lot can be done. I'm sure it was a "You are the Ref" a little while ago but I can't find it.

UFC has very strict rules in regard to concussion. Each sanctioning body has the right to medically suspend a fighter that shows signs of a concussion which lasts for at least 30 days.

UFC Canada President:

"When a fighter is knocked out in a UFC event he is immediately brought to hospital, where he undergoes either an MRI or a CT scan. In addition to commission-imposed suspensions, the UFC issues a parallel suspension, banning the fighter from contact drills in practice for at least 60 days and from competing for 90 days."

It's strange that people are using boxing to support their argument. Over 600 boxers have died from brain injuries and DP, a form of CTE, is common in boxing. Floyd Patterson, Joe Frazier, Sugar Ray Robinson to name a few have been severely affected by DP.

You were right about the UFC having watched GSP fight with Hendricks this weekend, they would never allow this type of thing!

As the GSP interview immediately 2 minutes after the fight showed, when asked about the fight he confessed to not being able to remember it or what happened, could just feel his brain rocking around in his skull, and that he had no idea that the fight had even finished.

So concerned were they that a) they didn't stop the fight and b) 30 minutes later they wheeled him into an hour long press conference where they subjected him to question after question that he was clearly having problems with comprehending until he started crying at which point they stopped the coverage.

True but it's still sport and one poster was holding it up as having very strict rules about concussion!

Anyway since the Lloris incident we've now seen Arsenal's keeper play 45 minutes after a similar incident, the GSP episode I mentioned and 2 incidents of England rugby payers being allowed to continue by the medical staff after being concussed. Marler played on until half time against Argentina after being concussed and was then allowed to play a head banging game like rugby again this Saturday. Then this week Hartley was concussed, clearly didn't know where he was and couldn't even stand properly and after treatment carried on for a further 5 minutes until he himself came off, subsequent tests showed concussion and a bruised lung.

Haven't read a single complaint about any of those incidents, which were all arguably worse than Hugo's, not a thing. No pundits talking about it, nothing on the tv news, no newspaper articles condemning anybody, no charities, no ex football players, no FIFA doctors or any organisations doctors, simply nothing.

Make of it what you will.
