Are our defensive errors that lead to goals due to our high pressing game?

I have no idea why this fact is shuttling past most on here.
Er.. They were in front mate.
They didn't have to chase the game. We offered hardly any threat.
They were perfectly happy to sit there watching us tap it about between our defenders and gk.
The way we played you'd have thought we were 1 up and running the clock down.

I don't really see that much of a high pressing game, but I think playing too high a defensive line can leave lots of space for the opposition to run into if they get a chance of a counter. That said far too often it's simply a poor pass/lack of focus/ill considered pass etc., it's even worse when so many of the occur from pretty risk free situations when the player has a bit of time and space and an opportunity to look around and see his passing options and where the opposition players are to avoid
The main thing is lack of focus rather than anything else

Yesterdays goal was down to Bentaleb's poor pass and Walker, typically, not covering the right CB, allowing Shrek acres of time and space and then bodging his last ditch challenge!
The absurdity. Don't even know where to start with that.

I think our players just aren't as good as the teams above us. If you compare our play to that off manure's, you'll have noticed that our players are DESPERATE to get rid of the ball when they receive it. Manure and top footballers are NOT like that they WANT the ball. They hold that ball and WAIT till their comrade is in the right space. If not, they'll continue holding it.

We panic and look to release it because we don't have a single player capable of holding it.

I find it hard to believe our guys want to not hold on to the ball. Unless they have been told not to dither on the ball.

I am watching whu vs arse. Depressing to see whu moving the ball on faster. Maybe a sakho helps.....direct running.

Having a brain that moves faster than a 1 legged hedgehog after it's been hit by a car helps.

It's going to be the same old shit this season, unless we upgrade the CM and get some pacey positive players for the wings, especially on the right.

Lamela doesn't count he needs to be in the middle or along side Kane up front. Yes, that is where he played for Roma.

XXXXXX ---------- Lamela
XXXXXX

Was the usual front three for Roma, when Lamela scored 12 goals. We on the other hand, have got a fucking clue what we are doing.

But, you can also look at the available midfielers to recieve the ball when moving the ball forward from defence, there is not enough dynamic, intelligent, cohesive movement, thus we end up giving the ball away too cheaply and too often with our defence turned and under pressure. It's been a regular theme of the last few seasons.
Why would Walker be covering the center back when his job when have the ball is to go high up the pitch ? see my post from another thread ; When Bents lost the ball it was 3 on 3, (Dier, Vert and Toby), Mistake1, Verts went to the ball but should have stayed with the runner ( Dier was even pointing to the runner), Mistake 2, Toby came across when he should have stayed closer to Rooney.

I'd attribute it more to relying on a squad full of very young players, most of whom are in their very early 20s. Young players are bound to make mistakes and those are the lumps we're going to have to take.

I'm admittedly not a tatics expert. But is our high press mainly responsible for the goals we leak? If yes, why do you all think Poch is sticking to it? If no, what is responsible then? What do you guys think?
Yesterday's wasn't a defensive error, it was in the middle of the pitch when we had possession.

Agree, but like most top teams, if you lose the ball in the middle of the park, you have a DM sitting there to cover up, like a lot of games last year, if we lost the ball in the middle of the pitch, it was open ground between there attack and our defense, we were
brainless at times, even all the bottom teams had very good chances against us, It would help if we attacked with speed, but we are so slow going forward, it can't be that hard to defend against us. Unless we sign a quality DM and some speed up front, I don't reckon our chances of top 10 this year.

The trouble is, if you have the ball your formation is different to when you don't have it. Give the ball away cheaply and you are in trouble. You must not give the ball away, and Benteleb did it far too many times yesterday.

Most games these days are decided by transitions.

Agree totally. All teams make mistakes. Brain farts or errors, they happen. For ours, it's fatal. I just don't get it why still persist with the high line when errors made lead to clear run on goals.
Don't play it until you have the players for it!
