Man for man discussions are the most pointless things ever as there are so many more factors that determine whether a team is better than another.

But, purely man for man, we are better than Arsenal at the moment.

Gooner mate of mine arguing with me on Facebook there miles better than us and even frimpong and koschelny would walk into our team swell as arteta is better than modric! Sandro is shit and Song is better than any of our midfielders!

So got me thinking who on paper has the better side?

Here's my squad if I had to pick one!

SAGNA---Gallas---King---Ekotto

I'd put Vermaelen in your first team ahead of Gallas but I'd agree with the rest.

You Gooner mate is an idiot btw, even most Gooners I know wouldn't say that.

You cant just say 'Wilshere is better than Parker' etc, they do different roles. He should be compared to Modric and theres no comparison (yet) IMO. I'll try and analyse both squads:

Friedel, Cudicini, Gomes > Any of their Keepers. Sneeeeezy makes as many mistakes as our three.

A lot of Arse fans think Sagna has gone way downhill over the last season. I think he would still get in a team ahead of Walker though right now.

Corluka is better than any reserve right back they have, if they have one at all, Jenkinson is it?

Centre back is more equal, Vermaelen is injury prone as is King, these two would probably be first choice if fit. Dawson is similar, maybe slightly below Mertesacker, Kaboul and Gallas are all better than Koscielny, Squillaci and Djourou IMO and Bassong is probably not too far behind any of those three either.

BAE is better than Santos, Gibbs is ahead of Rose though at this time.

Walcott and Lennon are equal, both so inconsistent. Benayoun and Kranjcar are pretty equal as well.

Parker and Sandro are better than any of their defensive midfielders

Modric is better than Wilshere, although we then have Hudd who is struggling right now and is probably a level below either Ramsey or Arteta.

I would rather have VDV and Bale than Arshavin and Gervinho

Up front well both teams have two standouts in Ade and RVP, Chamakh is probably better than Pav, whilst we have Defoe as well, they have some random Korean dude.

So we definately have the better squad in my eyes, and more of our players would get into a 'Best XI'. We really should be looking to finish above them this season.

I'd find room for Wilshere in my side, Vermaelen too (instead of Gallas or King...what's the likelihood of them both being fit!!!).

Wilshere is a prick of the highest order, but I'd slot him in somewhere, probably at the expense of VDV (sorry!).

Just think the lad is top drawer...asshole...but top drawer.

I think the OP's gooner mate is delusional if he thinks Song is better than Sandro and Arteta is better than Modric (wtf?!?!).

It's surprising how many rate Arshavin. He's very lazy and rarely involved in the match. And while capable of the odd moment of brilliance, it has only once (4 goals against Liverpool) really offset his overall contribution and tactical headaches. Against Blackburn for instance, Wilshere had 90 passes, Arteta a few less, Song and Gervinho had 60+ passes. Arshavin had 30.

Also Santos might be a very good signing. In his first Prem match, he was listed on the Opta stats as the most influential player for Arsenal. Early though

Define better

Purely on the grounds that they are a bunch of <CENSOR EVASION>s, I would have to say we are categorically, empirically quantifiablely, better than them scumbags.
