Anybody else a tad worried were leaving it far to late to bring in any strikers, i know theres all the talk from the ITKs but it was the same at the end of the summer window. I really think were going to miss out again and be stuck with what we have.

Yes we have. Same old shit. It's worked a treat before though, right? VDV aside, when has it ever worked in 10 windows?

Levy always plays brinkmanship til the last minute. At times we succeed and get a steal. However this time I do feel his tactic will come back to haunt us at the end of the season if we are left with our current crop of strikers

Lets hope this obsession with last minute deals with bring us a VDV instead of a Rasiak.

In all fairness none of you know the efforts made to bring in a striker or how much we have been quoted for individuals.

The reason for so many last minute deals - and it isn't just our club - is that other teams ask over the odds for players until they look like they will miss out on a sale. Not to mention we have to be sure of shifting our unwanted players first.

There is absolutely no point in breaking our budget. The good financial running of the club is why we have been progressing over the last 5 years and are in the Champions League right now.

Frankly, I'm bored of hearing about "effort". Get. It. Done.

The constant drama is getting very old. Just fucking do it. You get some good players like that you might not otherwise get. Identify them, show sustained interest in them, go after them and sign them early. Luka Modric for example wasn't signed on the last day.

Frankly I'm bored of hearing this (not from you in particular mate )

It completely over-simplifies the whole transfer process. How can "just try harder" or "get it done" reduce overly inflated transfer prices? Or make a world class player willing to come to us within our wage structure? Or tempt a club to let a player on a long contract go?

If it was just as simple as getting it done we would have had our world class striker months ago.

Whilst I agree with you on the "over-simplifies" bit, we have scouts who work though out the year not just in the transfer windows and deals can be done before the window but the players just can't be registered. I feel Levy has been putting all his efforts into the OS and therefore neglected the transfer window to some extent. I still feel Harry is the weak link here as he said it himself, he's not too comfortable paying over £20m for a player...........................then he don't want to be called a wheeler dealer:shrug:

It's not just this transfer window though is it? We have still not replaced Berbatov with a player anywhere close to the same quality. We have a group of strikers who are horribly off form and are completely letting the side down. We have top players in defence and midfield in particular, but our forward line is lagging behind by some distance.

If we cannot find someone who is an upgrade on Peter Crouch (or Defoe on current form) for a reasonable fee then I think we need to improve our scouting network. I think many of us fear that our striking options are going to see us coming up short this season and then we no longer have the draw of the Champions league to attract players or, even more importantly, retain the like of Modric & Bale

I sincerely hope we do get someone decent in or that our current strikeforce all hit top form asap, but I'm fairly pessimistic now about both of those things happening.

Looks like it.

I hope instead of worrying that a £25 mil player may not be quite 'worth it' (nobody fucking is!!), the board look back at the amount we've wasted on useless players and realise it hasnt done us any long-term harm, and that for the price of a couple of them combined we could get a really bloody good one instead!

Maybe, but lets face it, it's all about the money. Levy says we have it, but has yet to put the money where his mouth is - in regards to a striker anyway.

Fact is the striker should have been bought in the summer transfer window, not now. Everyone know's Jan is a almost impossible time to buy due to the highlighted, so why are we trying to buy a striker again in Jan. Have we not learnt from any lessons from the summer of 08....

Nah, I see what you're saying and of course it isn't that simple. However, the results, save VDV wunder-signing, over the last however many windows have been the same. The one really big signing of not just a promising younger(ish player) was done and wrapped up outside the windows. They had a clearly defined target, pursued him and got the business done.

We've seen the scatter-gun approach in numerous summer and winter windows and how often has it paid off? Berbatov after the whole Torres is nailed on and then Kuyt going to Pool business yrs ago and VDV aside? 10 windows and we're usually left holding our dicks. or worse yet, signing a Rasiak or Campbell.

Maybe it's time to try a different approach.

Yup....im almost ready to say if we dont have someone in for the Blackburn game we can forget about 4th place.

Sorry to be so pessimistic:cry:

The fact of the matter is this, Tottenham hotspur, quite rightly won't pay at least 130k a week, almost double that of our top earners, for any player.

Top top strikers, cost top top dough.

We won't be signing one without either a massive change in club policy, or the sale of 3-4 of our deadweight players that are earning a chunk for doing nothing.

We've reached our level, and I find peace acknowledging that.
