Are we on course for our best ever Prem season?

We're almost 10 games into the season which is too early to tell but enough to give a potential picture of the table stands.

We have played 8 games and 5 of those were away. After 2 heavy defeats to the 2 best teams in the Prem in our opening 2 games we have racked up 4 wins and a draw, 2 of which were against Arsenal and Liverpool.

Our previous best season was under HR when we finished 4th. We had Crouch, Defoe, Keane and Pav as our choice of strikers which didn't look strong enough to some to fire us to 4th. Bale ended the season on a high and we held onto 4th beating a declining Liverpool side and a stil building Man City side to the CL.

This season our competitors seem to be in disarray. Villa and Everton have dropped off and Newcastle's squad doesn't look strong enough to maintain any real competition. Liverpool have spent big on players who aren't much better than what they had, Arsenal have lost several important players in the last two seasons without any new stars emerging and Chelsea aren't looking particularly strong as a team at the moment though on paper they are still excellent.

We have bigger injury problems than our competitors but if we get 4 points from our 2 games in hand, which are both home games, we will be 3rd.

With no CL football and some young stars taking charge in the Europa we have our strongest side fully concentrated on the Prem.

I don't think us finishing 3rd this season will necessarily be punching above our weight.

I certainly hope so, but to be honest, I'd prefer 4th or 5th if the same spirit that we had under Jol was to return as well as the attractive, committed, attacking football.

Results and achievements are all well and good, but they weren't the reasons I started supporting Spurs back in the 80s, it was for the style with which we played and the atmosphere/feeling we created, and I really miss that and want it back.

Games like tomorrow will have a big bearing on it as those were the type of games we made a mess of last season and its also the sort of games Liverpool have struggled with this season.

Tomorrow represents the first home game whereby people really have us nailed on to win, and where the visitors are likely to set up for a draw. How we handle that will say a lot about how we've learnt from last season.

True. We've already beaten Wolves and Wigan away and I believe Adebayor's all round game could help us see off teams we struggled against last season.

Spurs' total of 16 points from eight games is their joint-best start to a Premier League season.
Sixteen points from the last 18 is Tottenham's best run of form since January 2005.

Source - QPR match thread.

Still, please don't post stuff like this. Even thinking it jinxes it..

This is the Premiership, you always come unstuck at some point.

I hope though that we have learned from last season how to win against the so called "lesser" teams. I am sure no one at spurs wants the same mistakes to happen.

Chelsea look vulnerable, Liverpool are not back yet and arsenal are still hit and miss (though never write them off), so 3rd is realistic, but will take a lot of effort!

Beating teams like QPR at home though is a must, as is not underestimating any team in the prem.

We all want to win pretty, but right now the most important thing is to continue to win full stop, pretty or ugly it does not matter. Winning breeds confidence and more winning, the style will come, we have good enough players.

A hard fought 1-0 win, or a an easy 4-0 canter still yield the same amount of points! (yes goal difference could do with a boost)...

Proper teams concentrate on the next game...and don't have their head in the clouds looking ahead MONTHS in advance.

It could equally be our worst points total ever in the Prem and we could get relegated!

Attreactive attacking football under Jol? Very amusing!

I also struggle to remember the attacking football under Jol. In his defence, his squad was weaker than Redknapp's. I doubt whether any of the following would get into today's team

Stalteri
YP Lee
Davids
Michael Brown
Mido

Davids might but agree with the rest of them. We have come on leaps and bounds and it is quality. However, it ain't over til it's over as the hairy fella sang.

8 games, 16 points. If we keep up this rate then we'll end the season on 76 points, 6 more points than when we qualified for the Champions league, and almost guaranteed qualification again, so at the moment we statistically are on course for our best season ever.

I think people fogey how good mido was when fit, he was pretty good i mean we managed to sell him for £7million after fattening him up by 4 stones

What spirit did we garner under Jol's stewardship that we don't currently have under Harry?!

We definitely possess the best squad for a long long time and as long as Harry plays the right system then we should be looking at a very successful season indeed.
