Harry potters: Redknapp eyes Kone as part of strike-force shake-up

Tottenham want the Ivory Coast international - but won't push ahead until they know whether or not they are in next season's Champions League

Tottenham have made a shock move for Ivory Coast striker Arouna Kone.
The 28-year-old is a free agent after a successful season-long loan from Sevilla to fellow Spanish side Levante, where he scored 15 goals.

Spurs have made an enquiry to fend off interest from Stoke, Atletico Madrid and Levante themselves, who want to sign him up permanently.
It is understood the Londoners have asked Kone to delay any decision until they know whether they have reached the Champions League or not - which depends on Chelsea losing to Bayern Munich in Saturday's European Cup Final.
Tottenham boss Harry Redknapp will have more cash to spend if they get into Europe's elite competition.

Wouldn't mind him as a back up. Spent a few seasons in the wilderness but was highly rated at PSV. Big striker with decent feet. Can play the lone role. On a free I say yes.

For a free it could work out to be a good deal, I could imagine he'd be content with being back up as well.

Did Puyol just try and kick him? If Barca don't try and improve their defence I can't see them overhauling Madrid next year.

Interesting about Kone though. Other than his obvious athletic ability how is his play, is he technically good enough or is he just going to muscle defenders (which is harder in England) and then have the ball bounce off him?

No, he's pretty good with his feet. Not like Messi or anything, but he did play in the Netherlands for a while, and you tend to learn the technical side of the game there. There's better strikers out there but not a bad option to have. Would be a great impact sub...Hold up play if we're winning (think Drogba), but can also crash around and win headers if we're chasing the game late.
Has a strong, strong shot on him too.

This is why Saturday's result is so important for us...if we don't make the CL then we can look forward to unknowns and second tier players than the big names we so desperately need to improve on our striker force.

True, but they don't have to be unknowns that nobody has ever heard of ever....just saying that is the kind of striker quality we can expect to be coming n without CL

Would be great if we could sign Arouna Kone. Again it seems like Harry has the same mindset as me :) A no brainer when he is a free agent. Great news, and let's wrap it up immediately!!
