They've got a hell of a lot of money and don't seem to want to spend it. Is it that the board don't feel confident about backing Wenger or is that Wenger is simply out of touch with the transfer market? I think they need a DoF to handle their transfer dealings and just let Wenger get on with the management duties.

I agree with everything you said. I think their problem is Wenger is obstinate and it's almost that he won't spend large sums in order to prove that his way is best and for the same reason he won't agree to a DoF.

I don't think it's quite that simple, Tim. I'm sure he'd welcome Dein back, because it was Dein who brought him to the club and made all the signings that won the trophies—Bergkamp, Petit, Viera, Pires, Overmars, Henry, etc., etc., etc. It's surely no coincidence that since he was forced out six years ago they haven't won anything, whilst the signings they've made haven't exactly set the pulses racing. Maybe when you've worked with someone like that, second-best doesn't appeal.

True, I'd forgotten what a large influence Dein had over the shaping of the club.

Good point SS.. Also he had a lot of - maybe too much - sway with the FA.

That convenient Southampton postponement comes to mind.

.. Ruthless but efficient.

Had a chat this morning to an Arsenal supporting mate, very loyal fan!

Very frustrated at the lack of movement by his team, feels let down by Wenger and is totally disillusioned by the club. Says that he can't believe they've left it this late to sign anyone and reckons that they'll have a slow start which could prove vital as he thinks that we'll actually pip them for 4th this season (this guy has never said that before :D)

Whatever we want to say about Levy we aren't half showing ambition which is something that every club longs for. I know it's take a bit of time to get where we are now but we really are onto something massive especially when you compare us to other teams.

Bad for us that they lost today, probably the wake up call wenger needed to seriously start spending.

This isn't necessarily bad news. Arsenal are shit at panic-buying and will get robbed blind.

If they don't win their CL qualifyer the desperation will really set in and they could blow money big time

I agree 100% anything but a bad defeat may have lulled them into a false sense of security, and with the injuries he now has no choice but spend big now.

But on who ?

They need at least 1 top quality CB, 1 top quality defensively minded CM and 1 CF, before I start to get worried.

Papadopoulis, Fellaini and Surez/Dzeko and they would be hummin, but pulling something like that off ? Hard. As Beats said to me the other day, the options are limited.

Can people stop calling it a Champions League qualifier?

It's a Europa League qualifier.

On who exactly?

They need a world class centre forward. How many are available? None that I can think of.

They need a top class centre back. Again, how many are available? Barce are in the market for the same type of player and have been reduced to enquiring about Daniel fucking Agger.

Can't think of many good options that's left for them TBH.

That's the only problem with leaving your business late, you're left with scraps.
