It's ridiculous they way we play it. We are far to casual and always look like losing it. City do it all the time but look very comfortable doing it. I'm not saying just boot it up the field anywhere but play it out up the field not across our goal every time.

yeah they’ve been doing it for about 15 years lol. And I promise you they’ve suffered the growing pains at times over the years. Ultimately though unless you are uncompromising about it, you’ll never learn how to do this effectively

I'd be taking udogie off for Davis it's really an accident waiting to happen
Is it? I thought he’d defended pretty well and didn’t even think the yellow was all that bad. He stepped off saka too much for the goal but otherwise I think he has been fine. Don’t have Neville on my commentary though so don’t know what narrative he has today. Saka certainly hasn’t been bossing him any more than kulusevski has been dominating zinchenko.

Perisic would have really come in handy this second half down the left you feel.

Hojbjerg will certainly be introduced sooner rather than later - most likely for Sarr

Higher possession and more passes in their shit ground still at 1-1, considered good improvement over last many seasons already. Go on for the win please.

Playing out the back is definitely working and Arsenal are highly frustrated by it. Knocking it long will forfeit posession each time, and we'll have no chance of breaking through.

I hope we are more composed on the ball in 2nd, and Arsenal starts tiring.

Close game. Both sides a bit conservative it seems.

I think we grew into that by the end with Bissouma still looking off his game so if he steps up in the second we can have some fun hopefully

You've missed the whole idea then. He's never gonna compromise on the philosophy. Today's game isn't to be rated by a win or loss and mistakes, but by whether or not the boys stick to the ideas and keep trying to do what they're told. I'd you revert to pragmatism at the first sight of adversity, we'll never progress.
Point taken but from my point of view it’s shows adaptability based on the moment. I’m not saying that we should play hoofball but identify the areas that’s creating issues and adapt

Am I the only one who thinks we've done better than expected going into this game?
The reason why we've been pushed back is only down to nerves IMO. If we cut that out I think we could really do some damage in that second half.
Especially if Biss and Maddison can get into the right headspace and ignore the ref.

Anyone who thinks we should or will stop playing out from the back is in for a looooong season.

I don't like this new rule. When the refs gets obvious things wrong, it should be pointed out

Disagree. The player reaction to refs is ridiculous and football is one of the only sports where this is deemed acceptable at almost all levels.

He didn't even necessarily get anything wrong. He played the advantage, we didn't take it. One of the clearest fouls you'll ever see from Sarr and then Bissouma goes ploughing in to complain despite there being multiple warnings to not backchat the refs this season.

As long as the refs stay consistent with this, I'll be happy.

This constant aggression and the time wasting are two of the things I'd love to see changed in the football culture.

We’ve caused our own problems that half. Some shocking passing decisions.

Johnson off. Hoping he’s just nervous but he’s been a passenger.
I thought he's been alright, it was absolutely brilliant movement for his chance and if he keeps he shot low he has a goal.

He's worked hard for the team tracking back and chasing balls in the channel.

We’re fine playing that way, we’re just not
Playing fast enough - too nervous. Play from the back but quicker - Romero and Biss keep putting their foot on the ball and we’re going back too much - braver into wingers and Maddison and we’ll break through

This as a way of creating space (but i agree they're taking it to the extreme)
By drawing a man in it means that there is space elsewhere.
It has created space, we just haven't found the man in space enough, but when we have it gets us going forward at pace.
We've rarely gotten the ball into their half this way though. It's been high risk and little reward so far. When we've done it quicker then it's given the receiver more time to make a positive decision. Right now they're on top of our players and it's ending back at the 'keeper and we're repeating the same sequence.
