Hugo said the players went out and played with fear and no freedom ! You can’t tell me that doesn’t come from Jose
I have a feeling Hugo is one who hasn't been so happy under Jose.

And if he's saying this then there's a reason why.

Sissoko said similar in the past right?

That Sonny injury was in the post. You can't play someone who relies on pace 3 times a week for months on end and not expect them to pick up a muscle injury. Lets hope its only a couple of weeks rather than the rest of the season.

And I'll ask you the same question that hasn't been answered yet (except by werty, who's cool):

Seeing as we set up precisely the way we did against Palace (barring a single personnel change) how is it that we played monsterish attacking play in that game and then were so weak and unintense in this one?
You're confusing formation with intent. It was a low block set up, we didn't press high and got ourselves into a malaise of not being able get out which negated our strengths- Bale, kane etc.

And even if you're right which I don't think you are, even if you're correct and the players just didn't perform then you still have to question him as they aren't playing for him.

But we know Mourinho’s often favoured tactic is a low block without the ball. He has never hid it.i suspect he just didn't have the courage to fully back it up and drop Bale and n'dombele or lucas to ensure we had the defensive energy to do it well.

Always the tactics, do you have any idea what the tactics were? Do you think it’s the tactics that had caused us to not have any fight in the midfield and lost every 2nd ball until the last 10 minutes? It’s bloody obvious the players didn’t want it as much as arsenal did, the tactics didn’t cause us to be out worked by them lot the players did. I am also not defending Jose as I think it’s still his fault that the team wasn’t motivated albeit it’s a fking derby.

I am worried what’s going to happen in the league cup final or if we draws any decent opposition in the Europa, just can’t see how he’s going to change this team‘s mentality but ultimately he’s the one that needs to find a solution
Please see my reply to rez. I think that answers your question

I hate to say it, they deserved it today, they wanted it more. Lockdown is starting to get me down. The one thing that helps to keep me going is the football and I support Spurs. I might as well give up. Getting beat today was extra depressing because we didnt show up. Shame on them all for todays poor performance , everyone is to blame.

It wasn't actuslly a low block it was more of a medium one, the problem was the intent i.e lack of pressing.

Fortunately I could watch the golf and watch West Indies winning in cricket instead. Hate this lockdown though now; I would rather be out and about doing things. If I never watch a game again I don’t think I would be missing much

saw this post: Since Tottenham beat Arsenal to go top of the league in December, they have played a top half Premier League team 8 times (7 in the league, 1 in FA Cup). They have lost all 8 of those games. Mourinho masterclass.

The amount of pens we give away in big games is just unreal.

• United at OT - pen to go 1 nil down after a few minutes.
• Playing a poor Chelsea at home - pen to gift them a lead which cost us the game
•City away - another pen gift to give us a mountain to climb
• Everton FA cup - another gift to put the tie mostly beyond us
• Home to Leicester in a crunch game - complete brain fart pen which we never recovered

5 huge games where we have imploded. It’s just ridiculous

How many of those are actually legitimate penalties ? I’m not sure if it’s me or not but I do not understand the rules anymore in terms of what is and isn’t a penalty . It’s all so so soft I cringe watching it . Other sportsman must watch football and laugh sometimes .

In regards to the game I also do not understand how the players can say the confidence is back and then come out and play like that? Some of them couldn’t even control the ball

Then he should be immediately sacked, yes? No team can win if all the players are crippled by fear and feel restricted by the coaching and tactics. It’s impossible.

So, yes if Lloris is saying they all felt scared and held back by the manager’s approach to the game, which is why they lost, and is the explanation for everything that happened in that game, the manager should be fired tomorrow. As no manager in world football can get a team to be successful if all the players in their squad are in a perpetual state of terror and feel restricted.

And if that is what the captain of the club is saying publicly about their team’s coach, then he must really want Jose gone. As that is a profound indictment. Also implies the coach has lost the faith and trust of all the players. That’s a big, gutsy move by Hugo. Leaves Levy with no other options, does it?

Wasn’t a strange game though, was it? It was a familiar game because we’ve seen it several times this season. The players can’t play this way. That’s a shared responsibility for their lack of ability to adapt to it and Mourinho’s insistence on getting them to do it when facing any team that is t scrapping at the bottom. Ultimately he just has to stop asking them to do it because their obviously failure can not then be a reason for him to throw them under the bus. It’s like asking my kids to drive themselves to primary school and then being pissed off it didn’t go well. It’s just not what they do. Might improve further down the line but until then I’ll have to find a more natural solution.

Monday morning is so close right now.
We see this differently, clearly. And that is the joy of being a supporter and sharing our perspectives.
Yes, the performance was familiar. I can see that.
But in recent weeks, we have played much better than that. And given the players he fielded, I’m kinda perplexed that he would expect and request they play in a low block. If so, then yeah, that’s plain stupid.
To me, it was an odd game, as I did not expect our boys to come out and play so passively. But it sounds like that is exactly what you expected, hence why you feel it was more of the same. I dig it. I was expecting something different.

If you were in the manager’s shoes, with this squad, how would you deploy them, based on our general strengths and weaknesses? I’m genuinely curious. Cos whenever I think it through, I can’t come up with a style of play that best suits the talent we have (or don’t have).

My biggest gripe with Jose, is that he can’t see to address our most glaring issue... which to me, is in midfield. So many games we see ourselves overrun in the middle of the park. Unable to transition forward. Did you see how many misplaced passes PEH played today? How Tanguy really struggled to get going and was more muppet than maestro today?

Then, where Jose really messed up today, was not identifying that sooner, as they kept overloading the right side and isolating Doherty in 1 v 1 situations, which we know he doesn’t do well with. That was where all the danger came from. No midfield help, and Bale did not track back at all. That is what worried me the most today, and why it seemed so strange that we didn’t respond sooner

Ndombele definitely seemed more nervous, no idea why but he wasn't prepared to get close to their midfielders and roll them. When he did he gave up the ball a bit too easily and his key passes were played with zero conviction.

Not sure of that's down to Jose or just mentally from him but he didn't give a good account of himself. Hojbjerg seems tired.
