Because Brentford is a well run club, with an owner who’s a genuine fan who has a passion for the team to be a success not to make money. And surrounded by a management team who have a firm strategy and pull in the same direction.

All things we don’t have.
Winner 1,000,x

It just shows when the club is run well on the football side and there is a clear plan and vision that come together special things can happen.

We have none of that, I don’t think we’ve ever had it under Levy/ENIC. Poch was a bloody miracle worker for us and Redknapp did great bringing in players he knew and we got a few right with bale modric and VDV otherwise aside from those times the strategy has been all over the place.

One time we did seem to have it right was under Jol when we started buying lots of young British talent like: Robinson, Dawson, Carrick, Jenas, Lennon, Defoe etc and add some quality experienced European players to it like Edgar Davids etc, that was a nice mix and a good spine to the team but otherwise it’s just been a mess in terms of our player recruitment and matching that to our manager hire and playing philosophy.

I was waiting for it tbh. It's sad but what we had was impossible to sustain. They can sign players we simply can't.

Even Arsenal, spent force as they are for the most part, signed Aubameyang when he was very respected and known as a good striker, and even Partey last year.

I think 6th is a fair minimum expectation for us but beyond that you are relying on better-resourced teams fucking up or being at the end of a cycle.
Yes mabye but other clubs with lesser resource than us have shown that with a solid player recruitment strategy that matches the managers plan and philosophy you can overperform.

Leicester have done it for a few years under Rogers, Moyes did it at Everton and again at West Ham now, Brentford are massively overachieving with their set-up so it can be done but we never have a clear concise plan on the football side so we are constantly in this limbo state.

Very frustrating

What do we expect? 6th game into season - not one new signing in that starting 11. Lost Bale/Lamela/Toby and replaced with players for the bench. Same failing players year in year out. Our squad is even more shit than last season; as is our manager. And we were outplayed there last season. Maybe go and sign players who change a starting 11.

Someone please tell me why Romero didn't play today though. Surely a presence and has to be better than Sanchez?

It would be VERY interesting to hear what Kane has to say about this. He didn't exactly cover himself in glory today (again). Starting to lose patience with this guy.

If Brentford can play with passion and a solid plan with a ragtag squad that costs a fraction of ours, why the EFF can't we?
I was thinking the same and about to post when I read yours. Brentford don't have what you would call a star player in their squad but play open attractive football. I thought their game against Liverpool was a great advertisement for the game and to watch. When was the last time we said that about us?

I just don’t want to watch us anymore. It used to be my escapism but now it’s my pain. I already promised myself I wouldn’t go to any games this season but now I don’t even feel like watching it on TV. It’s not due to anger it’s just pure apathy I have towards us atm which kind of makes it worse.

Frank lost 8/10 from his start at Brentford (caveat that with he came in mid-season to replace Dean Smith).

It takes time, trust and patience. Course, Nuno won’t get any of that so I don’t see the point.

Yeah, it's astonishing but we actually seem to be getting worse with every game. Having a clear philosophy is *so* important as a manager - slate Arteta all you want but he's stuck with his idea through thick and thin and maybe it's starting to pay off now.

Same with Klopp, Pep, Tuchel, Potter, Bielsa etc. Everyone knows how they want to play football, whereas I'm not sure even Nuno knows how Nuno wants to play football.by nature a
I think the problem with Nuno is that he’s caught between two horses. He’s by nature a defensive coach but seems he feels he has to appease the fan base’s desire for attacking football which has meant he’s doing neither. I was stunned seeing the lineup that we were going into a NLD at their place ( and the first since the pandemic with fans back) with only Hojbjerg as a defensive midfield option. That was made worse by the fact that Hojbjerg didn’t sit deep but instead wandered all over the place. So instead of sitting deep( at least initially) and hitting on break we had everyone bar the two CBS bombing forward leaving acres of space behind for them to exploit. This was apparent for the first goal but nothing changed so the second goal was almost a carbon copy. This isn’t how Nuno teams normally play. If he can’t decide on how he wants us to play then how are the players going to. He’s got to choose a system drill them In it and stick to it. As it is we don’t know from game to game how we are going to set up and play. He’s also got to pick players who are in form. How Skipp and Gil didn’t start today after their performances mid week is baffling.

Hoddle, Gascoigne, Modric, Eriksen. Players who dictated the whole rhythm of a match, or who did something magical when the team was up against it. They epitomised the Tottenham way and were the reason I supported them as a midlander. Everyone could see our orchestra was missing a conductor the last few years.
Kane tried to take on the role last year as well as continuing as the soloist up front, but he is only human. And now we’ve broken him.
The two players we needed to sign this summer, whether Kane stayed or went, were a playmaker and a striker.
Instead we bought a bunch of defenders who sit on the bench.
And then we hired the only manager more defensively minded than Mourinho.
How sad. I genuinely wanted us to lose 6-0 today in the hope Nuno would get the boot before we sink any lower.
How many more games does he get if we keep up this moribund ineptitude?

I don’t think Conte is the answer. We don’t have the players. We need someone to build a team.
Conte could be the answer. But whether or not he would be depends on Cousin Levy.

This is what needs to happen at Spurs: I'm not even slightly hopeful it will, I'm just setting it out hypothetically:
  • Levy removes the restrictions he has placed on our wages-to-turnover ratio. It is the lowest in the Premier League, and if the figures from the Championship are replicated, one of the lowest in the entire professional league. That doesn't mean we spend without limits. But the level that we operate at right now is far too low. Even a small increase would increase our spending power hugely;
  • Levy sacks Paratici with immediate effect and hires a DoF who is known for forging attacking squads;
  • He sacks Nuno and immediately hires Conte to work directly to the new DoF;
  • He dissolves the transfer committee. Or restructures it so that he has no place on it whatsoever. He himself withdraws from every single footballing decision except the setting of the budget for the DoF;
  • We employ a dedicated team of sports psychologists to actually look at the state of the team and help to alter their thinking when it comes to playing the game;
  • Any player that Conte deems not good enough is moved from the first team and sent to the U23s in readiness for transfer to other clubs at whatever price we can get for them;
  • The new DoF constructs a new team with the aim of being strongly competitive in the league within the space of two season. Not to win the league, not even to win in Europe - those things are not guaranteed - but to be competitive, to, at least, pose a challenge to the slavers and oligarchs.
There is nothing to stop Spurs and Levy from doing the above - nothing. None of the above would bankrupt the club. None of it would pose an existential threat to the club. The only threat it would pose would be to a possible plan that ENIC have to pay down the debt the club owns, so that it is more attractive to a potential buyer.

I would have played Romero instead of Sanchez as I said before KO but Romero was pretty bad vs wolves 2nd string on Wednesday and I understand why Nuno didn’t pick him

You know, you've really got to admire a club that has the brass neck to send me my Mura ticket minutes after the shower of shit I just witnessed.

To be fair, it was sent by ticketmaster, but the irony was rather stinging.
