I don't really like Sherwood but I have to agree with him that I don't think we were over-ran in midfield. Sure at times when they had counters they exploited the extra man but I wouldn't say in general play they ran rings around us in midfield.

I really don't know what all the fuss is about...the home team in recent games has won the NLD...we had a very tiring midweek game against the champions with virtually the same XI. I don't think there was tactical outclassing or any of that crap people like to write on football forums, Arsenal are a good team and playing them at the Emirates is like playing City at Etihad or Chelsea at Stamford Bridge - you have to be at you absolute top notch to get something - and we were tired but definitely still in the game before Rose's mistake.

Unfortunately just like a chain, its complete strength is totally dependent on the strength of its individual links, one or more weak links and it matters not how strong the others are.

Be it a managerial weak link or that of Danny Rose or Bentaleb (I think he's good by the way just not for these types of games yet)...

A few years ago there was great focus on us needing a leader or two on the pitch, who was our leader yesterday? Yes we need certain players back and back in their correct positions. We need Verts back in the center to lead and Sandro alongside Dembele and Paulinho too.

Defo need a better full back than Rose, who has made a number of these similar mistakes now, this season. Eriksen clearly needs to adjust more to the PL and realize he cant dwell too long on the ball and just like Lamela needs to be stronger on the ball, maybe they should take some lessons from either Sandro or Dembele...

Does TS talk a good game or can he demonstrate his tactical awareness and intelligence and make the right changes for the right games?

One thing is certain, if DL doesnt see errors being corrected then Tim will not be in charge next season, no matter how cozy he thinks he is with Dan.....
The problem, forever, has been that we've continued with weak links, especially in critical positions.

It's precisely what I banged on about at the start of the season when we didn't sell Dawson and didn't upgrade on Naughton and Defoe.

It is seriously concerning that we continually fail to address this and never learn.

What idiot doesn't buy a left back in the summer???

Who doesn't see kaboul is now a sicknote and any long term injury to verts would leave us with an average Dawson as our go-to, leaving us in peril in a vital position???

Just baffling.

We can never truly progress as a club until we get the fundamentals right...and shockingly we still haven't sussed that, but continue to assert our ambition to be part of the elite.

It really is mad.

What pressing game? The one that saw us triumph over City and Liverpool?
This argument of using two games and extrapolate over AVB's reign is tiresome.

The very best have all had complete horror shows;

Mourinho vs Barcelona
Fergie vs Man City
Wenger vs United

Do we use those matches as the yard stick to judge their managerial careers?!

Be very careful we still have to play liverpool and Man City again.
Arsenal were under strength, no Ramsay Ozil Giroud and there reserve keeper.
Just like West Ham we lost, Tims the manager so the buck stops with him, same as AVB.
March is very tough period for us and will probably define our season.
Till then lay of the 5 or 6 nils, we might be on the receiving end in march again.

Why, let's use the scintillating football we played when we demolished Palace, Hull and Cardiff instead, shall we? I'll bet you were absolutely thrilled by the pulsating victories over Sunderland and Fulham. I know I was.

The truth is there has been no 'pressing game'. It surfaced on a few occasions last season before sinking without trace. If you get off on leaden movement, sideways passing, a 'system' played regardless of the fact that it was entirely unsuited to the players that were available, joyless, tedious dross, then that's just dandy. Please don't try and pretend that we've been playing good football this season, because we haven't.

So we do.

So were we under strength. Didn't you notice?

Don't you think our season's already been defined?

If we do, at least we'll try and entertain. Sherwood has a lot of shit to put right.

Best team Sherwood would pick if full strength?
No our season is not over yet, top 4 is still there to be taken.
I was pro AVB, but knew he had to go in the end.
442, be entertained and lose no thanks.
6 nil to City yeah shite, but understandable, we werent the first team to get a kicking up there and there will be plenty more.
Liverpool was disgusting, you could tell the players werent interested and AVB had to go.
Do i want to see lennon and Townsend down the wings crossing for anybody in there? No i dont.
Intelligent football that will get us there and fighting for the league? yes please.

I think you have hit the nail on the head here. These matches have usually gone with home form, we weren't able to make changes after a tough match midweek.

I guess the thing that upset most people was that they looked a class above us again, whereas even when we have been losing at the Emirates recently, we have been able to get some blows in on them, this one they kept us at arm's length like Mayweather fighting some bum. Fabianski barely touched the ball.

They kept us at arm's length primarily because we had nothing to hurt them with they get bodies around our players very quickly.
Plus all their offensive players are quicker and technically better than ours and have been for years so much more mobility and fluidity about their play.
Sadly they are quite a bit in front of us which will piss a lot off on here but let's not kid ourselves different.

No idea. I haven't asked him.

Not unless we start scoring some goals, it isn't, and unless one or two midfielders start chipping in that means two strikers. Just like City.

Why not?

We didn't see much intelligent football from Villas-Boas.

You dont know how right you are.
Lennon and Townsend getting them goals you think?
These are Tims preferred choice.

Justin tell me honestly, did you actually prefer Andre's turgid football and us grinding out 1-0s against significantly inferior sides, not to mention getting whooped by all the good sides?

Seriously?

I prefer the turgid midfield battle that we lost marginally 1 - 0 earlier in the season at the emirates. To the attack versus defence 2 - 0 embarrassment we witnessed yesterday.

I get what your saying but it always seems to be excuses where we are concerned and I'm not sure going out of the cup is a good thing.
Genuine big and successful football clubs stay in as many competions as possible which is why they are where they are and we aren't one day it may change but not for a while.
Rather think big succesful clubs stay in the cups because they are big and succesful not stay in them to become big and succesful.
Money makes clubs succesful not a decision to stay in the cups.
