Arsene Wenger admitted that Arsenal missed enough chances to have already reached the Europa League final and claimed that his players did not benefit from playing for more than 80 minutes against only 10 Atletico Madrid players

The 10th minute dismissal of Sime Vrsaljko helped Arsenal dominate the match but, even with 76 per cent of possession and 28 shots, this first leg ended with what Wenger called the “worst possible result” in the context of his team’s chances.

“The result is not in line with the performance,” he said. “Once they went down to 10 men it destroyed a bit the flow of the game and it was not to our advantage. You come out with a bitter taste because we had the chances to be in the final tonight.
So Arsenal are a better team than Atletico 11 vs 11 but when they have a man more they're not?? It doesn't explain how your team are completely incapable of seeing out a 1-0 lead though, even with a man advantage.

Wenger is the ultimate excuse merchant isn't he? If Poch was coming out with crap like this I'd despair.

I’d rather Liverpool win the CL than these fuckers winning the Europa.

A tough call, though.

I'm with you mate, no difference between 6 tiiiimes than 5 tiiimes la, however, Wengers goons have never won a europeon title & that's the only trophy haul that we have better than them, so I'm definately seeing it your way, if one of them is to do it let it be the red shite from merseyside

If the rumoured transfer kitty of £50m is true then they could be cut adrift for a while new manager or not. ?

If that is so, they'll drop below 10th place next season, and should the same amount is earmarked for the season after, they'll be prime candidate for relegation. Rubbing my hands in glee at that prospect.

Not bothering today then.

50m won't go far to fix their thin squad.

Who on earth have they got left? Surely you'd be a bit pissed if you got to play today! It's like being the fat guy that gets picked last because he left his PE kit at home........(which was normally me to be fair) :D

Talk about putting all their eggs in one basket. Desperate times. Nice.

Poor show Arsene but you brought it on yourself.

All those bullshit years when 'you were playing the kids' in the League Cups (that you never won)

With only £50m to spend it sounds like they're looking for their own version of Poch. Someone who can come in and improve the squad by coaching rather than purchases. Any ideas who that might be? I really can't see Simeone leaving Madrid to join them.

Sounds like they really wanted Tuchel. Probably going to end up with Vieira.

Probably also going to be fighting for Europa League spots for several years....

A little snippet from the Guardian match preview this morning -

As recently as February 2016 Arsenal experienced another painful low at Old Trafford when they were in a position to kick on for a title challenge after narrowing Leicester’s advantage to five points. But their performance against an under‑strength United was feeble. They lost and the challenge petered out.

I thought history has made it quite clear that we bottled the title that year ?

Agree. He'd have to be mad. Oh wait lol.
Looks like the board realise the football landscape has changed even if some of their stupid fans and the likes of Piers Morgan dont.
If Chelsea Manure or City spend 90m on a player and pay him 200k a week and it doesnt work out then it doesnt matter. They'll just take the hit and spend same or more again next window and keep spending until it does work.
Arsenal Liverpool and Spurs are not playing the same game as those 3.
Their fans need to realise that.

If Arsenal lose today, should we be celebrating St Arseholes day? Make it a new tradition as we’re probably going to be finishing above them for a good few years yet! £50m transfer budget every year? Ha! I can see bigger Championship clubs spending that in the next few years!
