At the start of the season I had us to finish 6th. Current feeling is that we will probably finish 5th, with a chance of finishing 4th as our defence is just so mean. I wouldn't be unhappy with that as an outcome, albeit the thing that would make me REALLY happy (obviously other than winning the title, which I don't think we will) would be to finish above Arsenal in any position. Can't see that happening though; the last-gasp collapse of last season has put paid to me ever believing that we will finish above Arsenal regardless - I'll always hope we can, but I'll never believe we will until that miraculous day in the future when it actually happens.

Start of the season:

  • Top 4
  • Last 16 of the CL

Now:

  • Top 3
  • A decent run in the FA Cup
  • An early exit in the Europa League (to facilitate the first two)

Start or the season:
6th in League, Quarter final of CL, Good run in FA Cup

Now:
5th in League, Silverware in either FA or Europa Cup

If we get knocked out either cup early, then Top 4 in league

At the start of the season I was hoping for top 4 and probably thought a realistic finish would be 4th to 6th - more a reflection of how our opponents made changes, key signings etc. I was also hopeful of getting to the CL knock out and having a cup run.

Now I'll settle for nothing less than the domestic double. No, now I think we could realistically finish anywhere from 1st to 6th - so I have raised my aspirations but am still cautious that, without really being that bad between now and the end of the season, we could easily finish sixth - we could win 12 of our last 18 games and finish sixth. I am also hoping for a good FA Cup run. EL if we can scrape through to the QF with a second string may become more interesting.

Back to back CL qualification would be HUGE for us.

At the start of the season I felt it would be a tough ask, as all the money bag clubs went big on both player and manager recruitment.

What we've shown up to now, is progression and an ability to stay in and around the mix without being at our best.

Now we seem to be hitting form we're capable of seriously challenging those teams and we're no longer just gatecrashing the party.

I think top 4 this season would be a bigger achievement than what we did last year.

Start of the season, I thought we'd just about, with some luck, nick a spot in the top 4 and shine for a long time in the CL. I also thought we'd finish above Arsenal.
Now, I think we have all the chances in the world to finish top 4, and that we should beyond doubt shine for a long time in the EL.

The club needs a major trophy, there is not doubt about that, but I'm not convinced yet if this is the season for it.

I've said it a lot lately so apologies if it's a bit spammy, but I still think a top 4 finish this season will be a massive achievement, given that the other five of the top 6 have smashed billions, brought in top managers and are right back on top form after a few years of at least one of them being terrible every season.

I won't think about the title ever again until we actually win it after dropping my guard and stupidly getting my hopes up at one stage last season (West Ham away taught me the last lesson I'll ever need to learn on that subject).

I also won't even entertain the idea of finishing above Arsenal until it actually happens.

What I'd dearly love this season is to win a trophy, and the EL looks like a really do-able one given the teams which are left in it. I hope we go all-out to win that.

I had no expectations start of season, tbh.

Having seen half the season complete, I would say

i) to finish in top4 for 2nd year running would be good achievement
ii) finish above Arsenal - Realistically possible given how the season is going. Desperately want this to happen in the last season at WHL
iii) Tittle ? Don't think so. Think there are 2 better squads ahead of us - Chelsea & Liverpool. In case, we have luck & maintain current XI, then there is very good chance being in the mix.
