I can't complain about Villa fans gloating as after our 2nd fifth place finish and we kept hold of our players I was gloating big time.

They have slowly built and maybe because they've haven't constantly replaced their players at every opportunity their players might show a bit more loyalty to them than ours did to us.

We could learn a lot from the likes of Everton and Villa.

I really couldn't care less about the likes of Villa. Yeah they're doing well in the League, but what do they do in the Cup competitions? They certainly dont get to the final stages of any Cup competition. It was the same for us when we came close to 4th spot. We didn't do well in either Cup competition, and it helped a great deal in the League. Villa have the UEFA Cup distraction next year when the season really starts to take its toll on players, and i'm not sure they'll get much fiurther in Europe anyway. I'd much rather compete for trophies thanks.

rightly fucking so they should be gloating.
theyve spent next to nothing and look where they are?

unlike our assholes who spend millions and every fucking season is a fiasco!!

Sidwell £5m
Cuellar £7.8m
Milner £12m
Harewood £4m
Reo Coker £8.5m
Young £9.75m

And i'm not sure how much they spent on Shorey, Young, Friedel etc but they've still spent quiete a bit the past 2 seasons. They just dont do as much as us every transfer window. Most probably because they dont keep changing managers.

Good luck to them! They need to qualify for the CL though or they will start losing their best players to likes of Man U and Chelsea.

Good luck to them. He has done well with villa, he should have been England manager instead of McClaran too.

But I just hope Villa can maintain the form to keep Arsenal out of the top 4. Although it would be bloody typical of Arsenal getting 5th in the league, but winning the CL!!!

I'd happily sacrifice a loss to villa in order for them to cement their place above Arsenal.

If Villa can pip the Goons to the 4th spot then I think that would be great. Mainly because the Goons would be in trouble. We have all seen that they cannot afford to spend big on players which must be down to still paying off their ground. Without the CL and the money it brings they'd probably have to sell their best players and lose their manager as he'd want to win things and could be tempted by Madrid or even back to France where one of his friends is in charge of PSG. Finally they would collapse and play out the rest of their days in a big empty stadium in the lower leagues! (Best case scenario!):clap:

I like Villa and MON. They have gone about things the right way. They haven't gotten on their high horse like we did with out 'Steve Sidwell, James Milner and Nigel Reo-Coker are not top 4 quality' and have built a solid, united team unit which is entertaining to watch.

If only we could've done the same instead of going to flash, overpriced players who we bought in the hope of them playing 'the Tottenham way'.

Right now, Villa play more the Spurs way than we do.

You say this like they're expensive. Milner aside and they're all pretty much absolute bargains.

Good luck to Villa for claiming that 4th spot. And even more luck to them trying to keep their best players. Just wait until United or one of the other 'top 4' clubs swoop in for their best players a la Spurs.

I still maintain we would be a completely different club had we not lost three of our best players to transfers. Let's see where Villa is when Young and Barry finally leave because Lerner can't turn down $20 million pounds for each of them and their 'heads get turned'.

They kept Barry amongst the midst of the Liverpool threat.

He has scored a few important goals for them. As a 4th choice striker who's happy to sit on the bench, £4m is not too bad at all, especially when you consider Dave Kitson and Michael Chopra went for £5m a piece.

They kept Barry amongst the midst of the Liverpool threat.

That was only because Liverpool wouldnt / couldnt meet there valuation of him! Barry did everything in his power to force that transfer through and as far as im aware he hasnt signed a new deal yet so will be interesting to see what happens in the summer if they dont qualify for the champions league! Wouldnt be surprised at all if a few of the top 4 come sniffing around there players in the summer if they dont qualify for the champions league this season!

Some of their fans have got on the high horse about players like Reo-Coker but what they have got is a manager with clear, coherent views on tactics, players etc. and a level of control over transfers that we have just not allowed. They have also had great luck with injuries that has allowed them to field essentially the same team all season (this and most of last) combined with MON's confidence in his own decisions. Petrov, Reo-Coker, Barry and Agbonlahor have all remained in the line-up through poor periods of form over the last two years.

It's particularly harsh for me because (a) I live in Birmingham and work near Aston Villa and (b) I'm marrying a Villa supporter in a week.

It's difficult not to resent Villa if it's constantly thrust down your throat - it's particularly galling because we've been in a stronger financial and squad position and have essentially pissed it away. If we had been in the same form this year as we were when we should have got 4th we'd be challenging for the title - Chelsea & Arsenal have gone backwards.

My gut says I want Villa to fail. Regardless of how they go about it, the main thing for me is that Spurs do well relative to everyone else and other teams reaching the Top Four will leave us behind. I was at Villa/Arsenal and that was the worst Arsenal performance I have ever seen. They are ripe for the plucking.

What's most galling about Villa is that they're following the blue-print we laid down!

We started off buying up every bit of young English talent going and it was serving us well...then we just abandoned it and we are paying the price.
