If Aston Villa get the right owners in and Man Utd get their act together which I think they will, we could be finishing 8th next season.

Even for you that's a bit of a stretch. Villa are more likely to be fighting relegation than challenging for the top 6.

Lol at Villa getting the right owners in and finishing above us all within a season. Even if a rich oil playboy or war criminal takes over, they'll need more than a season to finish above us.

Same size club as us with decent fans. Hope they stay in the premiership.

Whilst many Villa fans will disagree, i never saw them as a big club - on the verge of becoming big at least twice that i can remember, but always the bridesmaid never the bride.

Admittedly, their location doesn't help - i've been to Birmingham a few times, it's not the vibrant heart of fashion & culture Telly Savalas makes it out as...

Aston Villa are as big as us, if not bigger, they have won the league more than us and more recently than us, they have won more trophies than us. They used to beat our arse regularly home and away. Newcastle in their first season after promotion got to fifth. You never know in football.

They won the large majority of their trophies pre WWI, when there was about five teams in the league. Kudos for the European Cup, no one can take that away from them. But they've never been a big club in the modern (Post WWII) era imo.

That doesn't make them a bigger club than us, not by today's criteria anyway.

In their first season after promotion they finished 12th.

History, as Chelsea and Man City have shown, is largely irrelevant. All that matters is how much money you have, how good your current squad is, if you are in the Champions League, what you have won in the last five years and where you are located. In that order.
