Villa have had a couple of second place finishes in the last 20 or so years. We'd be talking about those as near misses for years if it happened to us. They are pretty similar to us, we've swapped places in the last few years. A few quid behind them and they'll be a force again.

They have narrowly avoided relegation for the past three years, their squad is completely devoid of any real quality, they have a very average manager and they are in Birmingham. What happened ten plus years ago is just not relevant. Leeds got to the semi finals of the CL not that long ago.

But what is happening to them this summer could be very relevant. Time will tell. And not necessarily a long amount. Conversations between Liverpool and Man Utd fans have changed a lot in 12 months. United and City in 3 years.

Liverpool not a relevant comparison, it took City three years from their buyout to making into the CL, also FFP is coming in.

Well if 20 years, 10 years, 3 years and 12 months aren't relevant I think I'm done.

Lerner set them back and then some. If O'Neill had been backed the way he wanted, they would still be top 6. I think it's scandalous how they were used by this American charlatan.

And if being a long standing top flight team with a European Cup under their belt doesn't make you a big club I don't know what does.

Liverpool and Villa are not a relevant comparison, I know things can change in football but Liverpool are a massive club and this has never ceased to be the case. The City comparison is also false due to FFP coming in now and even with their massive spending it took them 3 years to finish in the top four.

O'Neill was backed heavily - he just wasted a fuckload of money and then whinged when Lerner said there wasn't any more to give.
