I think proven, Prem players are better bets.

I would suggest cheeky bids for SWP, Scott Parker/Alan Smith - get them on the cheap.

Arteta would be great but I doubt he would come to us.

I think South American players are abit hit & miss.

Alan Smith? :eek:mg:

I expect we will sign at least 3 midfielders, but I am not sure an out and out attacking midfielder will be on the list. A top quality box to box midfielder and maybe a battler or someone who has good pasing ability. No that isn't me describing Jenas, Zokora and Hudd. I'm thinking real quality players like Alonso, Poulsen, Lucho, Veloso, Inler, Carrick. I'd take any of those for our central midfield next season. Throw in Arshavin and Ronnie if you like.

I dont think Ramos will want to rely on any of our midfielders to be honest. Yes Hudd and JJ will have big roles to play, but I expect us to sign at least 3 midfielders, at least I hope.

I just hope it's no one English to be honest. Because a) that's boring, b) they'll be vastly overrated and overpriced. Unless it was Joe Cole. I'd like that.

IMO, we should be focusing on Van Der Vaart or Tiago.

After the way he twatted us about in January I'd be astonished if he was still under consideration. He doesn't seem to have made too many first-team appearances since then, either. There's probably a reason for that.

Did someone really mention the Emmerdale Eminem?

Diego started out as a second striker behind Robinho for Santos and that's exactly what he is. You'd be sacrificing Keane either way. Unless Berba goes and you played Diego behind Keane...

No he isn't.

He's an AM, same mould as Scholes, i.e. best going forward and pushing from midfield to edge of the box, but perfectly good at putting in tackles higher up the pitch and tracking players back.

albelda, bentley, modric drifting in from the left. keeping berbs and keano up front and using what we have now to fight it out over the last mid place usually playing the more defensive chaps in away games and games against the big 4.

If we were to sign the likes of Diego, Mati Fernandez or Ronaldinho, then to accomodate them as an ACM, Ramos would probably have to switch formation to a 4-2-3-1 (ie no room for Keano), or a diamond 4-1-2-1-2 (but given Ramos loves wingers, I'd be surprized to see that happening).

These formations are all part of a highly adaptable 4-3-3 system and with our current squad the 4-1-2-1-2 would be the best option as we would only need to buy 1 outfield player - attacking/creative midfielder (Modric type) - playing behind Berbs and Keano/Bent.
The other formations 4-3-3,4-5-1 or 4-2-3-1 would require bigger changes to our squad and if Ramos wants to play these then we will probably sell Berbatov and buy at least 3 outfield players.I don't think Berbatov would flourish in that system due to his lack of pace and work rate.

It is true that he seems to be one of the most versatile South American options for a 442 formation, but I firmly believe that Juande will change that if he feels that it is what it takes to move the team to a higher stage, by bringing some new players in (who wouldn't fit in a 442 style).

It's the strategy that should be adapted to the personnel, not otherwise. Remember Brazil 1970.[/quote]
Totally agree with this statement -guys on this forum talk about Juandes sytem of play in the Spanish league and for some reason think that he will not change now that he is in the Premiership.I believe that the 4-4-2 sytems days are numbered in the Premiership and Ramos will change with the times.Mourinho knew exactly the system to play here and he was no mug!

Its all about ARTETA. He can play left, centre, right and has great set pieces. He plays for Everton who are not better then us. Maybe Ramos can use his spanish connections. His not getting a game for Sapin which muct piss him off and a move to a team who is managed by a well respected spaniard may do the trick

Marcos Alvarez described Ramos' footballing philosophy to Guillem Balague here:

What is the secret of his success?

"He [Ramos] came with his philosophy - to play a quick, passing game with wingers, but compact," Alvarez told Guillem.

"He brought with him the way he played in Spain. His philosophy is to attack, to keep moving forward with the ball.

"But the main reason he is a top manager is because he understands very well the mentality of the players. He tries not to speak a lot, but when speaks he speaks very clearly. That is the most important thing."

-------------------------

I've stated before that I think Ramos' pursuit of Riquelme in November (acknowledged by Riquelme himself after his transfer to Boca) does suggest that Don Juande is prepared to change his formation away from his Sevilla 4-4-2 if top class players are available.

Ramos has shown a great willingness to change formations during matches and pick players in positions that play to their strengths (eg Zokora as a spare CB when we're chasing a game).

I suspect our formation next season depends on who we're able to sign in the summer, and who goes. And I do agree that Ramos will have seen how difficult it is for two CMs to dominate matches in the EPL. Indeed, in the Carling Cup Final, it was Ramos' decision to put Huddlestone on and match up with 3 CMs against Chavski's 3 CMs that ultimately helped us turn the tide.

However, I also think Ramos loves attacking FBs and wide players who can get down the line and cross with their natural foot (eg the right-footed Navas and the left-footed Capel at Sevilla).

We have a perfectly good AM in Jenas, we need to concentrate on DM. Hudd doesn't get stuck in enough and Zoks distribution is poor.

We need a new DM and a new RW to replace the ailing Lennon.

He is our best CM by far. Pudd and Row Z-ok should be first in line for replacement.

Dammit, that was significantly better than mine. Thanks for shaming me

Sorry man. To be fair though you had the inspiration to turn AM into a 'tongue in cheek' dig at JJ in the first place so the credit should be shared equally.
