With all the headlines about the glory days returning to WHL, it's time for our club motto to make a return too.

I don't accept that dumming latin down into englsh makes us any more marketable. Quite the opposite, "audere est facere" is a brand, whereas "to dare is to do" is just a trite maxim.

Being latin never seemed to do Status Quo any harm (although I guess might explain why septics never really got them).

It's not like it's even that difficult, being only three words (a second conjugation infinitive, 3rd person singlular of the irregular 'esse', and a third conjugation infinitive).

So please, can we have our motto back.

Yeah, I'm still pissed that the latin version is gone

I want it back too!

I blame Flavia and Sextus.

Ahh, Ecce Romani brings back fond memories! I remember being told how important Latin was to learn as a language, then spending 2 years reading about Cornelius sitting under a tree.

Is this just a thread to try and lurk in all us Classicists before sending us off to come kind of camp for those who are useless to society? :-D

Seriously though, we need Audere est Facere back. It's part of our identity! Petition anyone?

It is not going to come back as the English translation IS more marketable to the wider market. Not all studied Latin at school (I did but nothing stuck) so having something that only a select few understand outside the core of aging Spurs fans seems a little weak. What is funny is that when my father was doing business with Spurs back in the early 90s none of the executives knew what Audere est facere meant and my old man had to translate it for them....I wander if that meeting unwittingly set us on a course to dumbing down our motto? However it came about it is now something that we can sell to kids and the general footballing public outside of Spurs - it might not be the best thing for the individuals on here but i think it is the best for the company.

Bring it back.

I mean, it's not like googling it to find out what it means is too difficult.

Mind you, if we move to Stratford expect our motto to be in Somalian.

Don't care. I shouldn't have replied to this thread. But I have.

It's not like it's real ink.

I think our motto should be in it's original latin state definately. If it's for easier public use, we might aswell rename WHL Spurs' Ground, or make the motto, "We have Gareth Bale, well, until someone bids 50mill"
