Slow movement, slow to see the picture of what's on, and slow in possession.

Unfortunately we have too many players who see those as their positive attributes. Until that's addressed, the football will be mundane.

This thread is so much better than the others, an honest critique while still giving him the chance to turn it around. (y)

The thing is...the players are doing exactly what he wants them to do imo. It's possession beyond anything else...even goals it would seem!

Possession at all costs and hope that something comes out of it.

Can never work.

I agree he's not likely to change that, but he needs to seek it through my three points. Not by conservative, mediocre, middle-of-the-road football.
How dare you question our sideway movement, if you had a person attack you like this, you would shit yourself

I think the problems have been clear since the Arsenal defeat

We take the ball and pass it no where for mins at a time and fail to create a chance (either losing possession or giving it away with a speculative shot from distance that very rarely produces anything positive)

Meanwhile our opposition are able to cut through us within one or two passes and be through on goal

Usually Lloris being the world class keeper that he is covers this for us so it hasn't been as exposed as it could have been (plus we've mostly played lesser teams in the league so far) but a combination of Man City's talent and Lloris having a bad day today really showed us up for what we are

in 90mins we created one real chance, from a nice Walker cross but Lamela fluffed the finish and Soldado failed to be in position to challenge for the cross

Mean while City basically cut through us at will, we could do nothing about it - it was the same story against Arsenal really except Lloris snuffed out a lot of their quick breaks and they sat back more because they were low in confidence after the Villa defeat and we were more respected as a potential force (so we held on to the ball more in midfield without troubling them more)

BUt nothing much has changed, we haven't improved and AVB doesn't even seem like he is working on improving these things- we've going backwards at present

Spot on. I was told as a 12 head old that as soon as the balls in the air it's 50/50. Basics. It's then you have to look at our midfield. I'm not confident when Sandro or Paulinho come deep to collect off back 4. I know he's been off the boil but for me Dembele has to play. People say Eriksen should play deeper but he tackles like a 10 year old and probably won't be the best at tracking back. We could try him in a midfield 3 but AVB wont budge on system ATM.
We should consistently play Sandro Capoue as our two imo. Capoue has got 'awesome box-to-box' written all over him and has a lot in his skill-set.

I would play:

Walker Kaboul Verts Chiri*

Sandro Capoue

Lamela Paulinho Townsend

Soldado
...and then I would incorporate Holtby, Lennon, Siggs, Demebele after a while.

That five in bold should be played every game in the prem for a few games.

Our players are being over rotated and are unable to form 'relationships' on the field.

Verts is very very down at having to play LB, you can see it. He loses interest there, simply doesn't agree with him.

*until Rose is fit.

I'd rather play Lamela/Thor behind the striker than Paulinho, he needs a spell on the bench.

I wouldn't play Paulinho at all. Capoue I agree could be a great asset. I know most disagree but I think Lennon is a good threat. He commits defenders and teams defend differently against us when Lennon plays. Townsend I'd give a few weeks on the bench, needs freshening up.

I don't think Paulinho would offer anything as a no10 consistently. Maybe the odd late run into the box but that's about it. We'd be better off playing Adebayor there if Eriksen is unavailable and Lamela is on the right.

Whatever shape you play, whatever team you pick, if you don't employ these three critical elements immediately, you WILL lose your job:

1. HIGH TEMPO

2. Persistent URGENCY from start to finish - EVERY game.

3. ONE/TWO TOUCH football (which obviously entails dynamic movement)

I'm just trying to help.

I want you to do well.
That's just a fancy way of saying "facking run around a bit".

Is there a recall clause in bae's loan? We need a settled spine and verts has got to be at CB.
AVB has got too many options and still doesn't have a clue as to his best XI.
He needs to pick a spine for the next six weeks and stick with it, the other positions can still rotate.
Until he does that things won't change.

We lack power and maybe even pace now in the final third. Everything's played into feet and static. no balls down the sides of the centre bakes to turn the defense around. No power to really make the ball stick up there. Holtby Sigurdson, Lemela, Soldado. Some talent in there but all powderpuff. We've also dropped our intensity when we dont have the ball now.

Agree with all of this but would add one more critical element to the list.

Pass the bloody ball forwards, passing the ball backwards and sideways will not win you games
