First time poster here. Today's events have finally moved my mind on from the pseudo-signing at the Mandela tribute. Humourous; not offensive. Top comedy.

I just hope we appoint someone who can infuse our midfield and top-end with an attacking bombast conspicuously absent in the AVB days.

Alternatively, Gareth Bale player-manager.

Probably Naughton, Dawson, Siggy, and Lennon. Four players that are most at risk of losing their places in the team.

Actually much more of a chance for Siggy, so doubt he is pissed. As for Lennon, who knows? He's been on XI for few games, but hardly a guaranteed AVB regular. Won't affect Naughton a much, still a backup rb who might be forced to play as lb occasionally given injuries. Dawson might be actually rather pleased that as AVBs tactics hardly played to his strenghts.

Looking at City's best XI, I think we could see a similar setup (As mentioned before):

City's XI:

------------- Aguero --------- Negredo ---------------
--------------------------------------------------------
Silva -------------------------------------------- Nasri
------------- Ferandinho ----- Toure -----------------
-------------------------------------------------------
Clichy ------ Dimechelis --- Kompany ------- Zabaleta
-------------------- Pants-as-in-shit ------------------

Now this could be ours:

-------------- Soldado ----------- Adebayor ---------------
--------------------------------------------------------------
Holtby/Lamela ------------------------------------- Eriksen
------------------ Sandro ----------- Dembele ------------
--------------------------------------------------------------
Rose ---------- Vertonghen ------ Chiriches ------ Walker
--------------------------- Lloris ----------------------------

I'd like to state that I've never been a proponent of the 4-4-2. But for a reason based off no fact or previous knowledge of Sherwood, I could see him looking at Man City and thinking we could replicate that in a way given how they setup.

Also, I know he's a big part of our youth system that often deploys a 4-2-3-1 or 4-3-3. It's simply an opinion and I think he could see it as a way to get us playing more attacking football and it would promote more fluidity and movement off the ball.
The strikers are completely different to our sorry lot. Aguero is more like rooney and floats around creating or findng space. Soldado is more like Keving phillips.

Would be happy enough for Tim to do the job until the end of the season to be honest.

Then hope FdB fancies a change of scenery

AVB wanted to buy Hulk for 40 million, Anderson for 25M and Moutinho for 30 Million, when he heard he wasn't going to get them he sulked and wouldn't speak to any senior management about players.
He wouldn't work with the system at all inb both summer windows and distrusted Baldini in the end too!

This does not make sense. I mean, whatever we think of AVB, surely he is not the most stupid person on the planet. I am not questioning the face-value of your info, only it's correspondence with reality.

JJ, would it be possible to confirm if Tim Sherwood thinks much of Michael Dawson or Kyle Naughton?

What will be interesting is whether Levy is willing to back Sherwood in the transfer window or whether he'll be told just to get the best out of what we have (a capable a squad at that!)

Why makes you think Sherwood will be our manager in Jan?

An astute post, albeit rather obvious. If Sherwood is appointed on an interim basis only then one would assume that he would not be given substantial financial fire-power. I presume it will be a "get the best out of what we have" situation.

I reiterate my earlier call: Bale for player-manager.

Tim Sherwood has been handed the chance to become the next full-time boss of Tottenham after Andre Villas-Boas was sacked.

Sherwood has been given the role of interim manager and will take charge of the Capital One Cup quarter-final against West Ham and Sunday’s Barclays Premier league trip to Southampton.

Sportsmail understands the former Spurs midfielder, whose coaching is highly rated by Spurs chairman Daniel Levy, has been told he has a chance to make the job his own.

Levy decided to relieve Villas-Boas of his duties after a meeting at the club’s Enfield HQ yesterday. Backroom staff Jose Mario Rocha, Luis Martins and Daniel Sousa have also left.

Villas-Boas knew he was on borrowed time after Sunday’s humiliating 5-0 home defeat by Liverpool. He was called to an emergency meeting with Levy and sporting director Franco Baldini following the loss and, although he survived the night, knew to expect the worst.

His fears were realised when he was summoned to another meeting with Levy at the club’s training ground soon after arriving at 8.15am..

Villas-Boas was promptly sacked, with the club’s mediocre league form cited as the primary reason.

Villas-Boas said his goodbyes before leaving at about 4pm. He is set to receive £4million in compensation to add to a £12m pay-off from Chelsea following his sacking in March 2012.

A Spurs statement read: ‘Agreement has been reached with Andre Villas-Boas for the termination of his services. The decision was by mutual consent and in the interests of all parties. We wish Andre all the best.

‘Tim Sherwood, Chris Ramsey and Les Ferdinand will take charge of the first team. Steffen Freund and Tony Parks continue as part of the coaching staff.’

While Tottenham’s cup form this season has been exemplary, the club’s hierarchy have been dismayed by a lack of consistency in the league.

Rout: Liverpool players celebrate as their 5-0 demolition puts the final nail in Villas-Boas' coffin at Spurs

An embarrassing 3-0 home loss to West Ham in October infuriated Spurs chiefs, while a humiliating 6-0 defeat at Manchester City in November was viewed as the beginning of the end. Friction over the club’s transfer policy is also known to have contributed.

Having received a world-record £86m for Gareth Bale from Real Madrid, Spurs spent more than £100m on players including Erik Lamela, Roberto Soldado and Paulinho. However, it is thought a number of the summer signings were not Villas-Boas choices.

Nevertheless, the hierarchy felt the squad was more than capable of challenging for a top-four spot but there were doubts over the manager’s style and tactical acumen.

Despite his side’s shortage of goals, Villas-Boas ignored pleas to alter his lone-striker system.

Rollercoaster ride: Villas-Boas (left) looks distraught next to City boss Manuel Pellegrini at the Etihad

With his side 2-0 down at half-time against Liverpool, his only substitution was to make a like-for-like change at left back, replacing Kyle Naughton with Zeki Fryers. The decision is understood to have been met with surprise by some players.

Jermain Defoe’s frustration was plain to see when he stormed down the tunnel five minutes before the final whistle.

A clutch of Spurs players have spoken privately about their doubts over Villas-Boas’s tactics.

Following yesterday’s sacking, the Spurs board held a series of meetings which resulted in Sherwood’s appointment as an interim replacement after deciding their long-term targets would not be readily available.

At the Lane: And former England boss Fabio Capello has been touted for the Tottenham helm

Levy and Baldini have compiled a lengthy list of alternatives to Sherwood. Southampton manager Mauricio Pochettino is highly rated, Ajax boss Frank de Boer has also been discussed and Basle chief Murat Yakin is viewed as another possibility.

Fabio Capello, who has close links to Baldini, and Guus Hiddink are obvious contenders but both would be short-term appointments.

Italy coach Cesare Prandelli and Celta Vigo manager Luis Enrique are other options favoured by Baldini. Sherwood, however, has been given the chance to prove his credentials.

He has previously turned down opportunities to manage at Blackburn and Brighton in order to focus on his career at Spurs.

Sherwood is effectively on trial now isn't he?

I mean we'll be considering our options very seriously, but if Sherwood does well over the next few weeks he'll probably get to the end of the season - and if he's done very well in that space of time I'm sure he'll be offered the job permanently.

Its like we're presenting it as temporary but really its a trial run for Sherwood.
