I thought it was common knowledge, he hired some new super agent to hold talks with levy & was telling all that would listen that he couldn't possibly be expected to work without a new long term contract to reward his great work (despite insisting that he didn't need a new contract a few months earlier when he wanted the England job).

Look, he did a good job, it was a fun time but it was also time to go. A lot of us found his antics extremely annoying & disrespectful despite initially being a fan of his which is probably why the redknapp subject always provokes such passionate debate.

I never understand what was so annoying? As I said before, I honestly believe every player and manager should want to represent their country. It was Harry's time and he went for it, good for him. I will never hold that against him.

DL/JL are not blameless. We've been hovering in this 4th/5th position for years because we've never actually spent any money net. We had two or three genuinely world class players but no squad. Now we've sold the top players and been left with a big squad of 7/10 players.

I think this is a good point, I've been thinking the same. First we had 3 star players surrounded by some very poor players & a captain with one knee now we have a great squad but no stars! Call me greedy but I want both lol

I think the decision of who our new manager WILL be, absolutely needs to be taken out of Levy's hands.
The man obviously hasn't a clue of what is required.
Come on, he employed Santini, Ramos and now AVB, they were just unlucky!

Who will select the manager, Baldini? His selections aren't looking that good at the moment!

I was very pro us signing AVB as our manager, but i must admit i start to worry for our (and his) future.

Except for the odd game here and there we havent really played very well for quite some time, and even worse is that we are so boring to watch to.

No plan, no urgency, no fight. Last season we won despite playing kinda slow and boring, and I like many others was sure we would look better this season after AVB had a year to settle but this sadly aint the case.

No Bale to save our asses this season:(

Well said mate, his selecting of managers has been bloody awful too. He only selected one manager that did any good and that was Harry.

Jol did okay, until Comolli poisoned his relationship with the board and saddled him with an unbalanced, hopelessly inexperienced squad.

Talking of sporting directors Arnesen's blueprint was buy British if you can, if you can't then buy foreign players who have already adapted to the Premiership, and only buy outside of the Premiership if you absolutely have to. In the past two years we have bought in twelve players, not one of whom was British, and this season we bought in seven not one of whom had played in the Premiership.

Harry got criticised for buying in veterans such as Friedel and Parker, and for wanting the likes of Phil Neville, but I wonder whether we now lack a bit of Premiership nous, and whether Villas-Boas, and in particular Baldini, recognise the importance of that.

We might have a better chance if they just put a load of names in a hat and the first one out gets the job.

That's your opinion mate & good luck to you, I personally see it a little differently that's all. That was just the final straw anyway for me, pretty much every interview he was coming out with some nonsense or other & telling us how great he was and it's not as if he admitted anything re the england job, like I said the way I heard it he went in all guns blazing demanding a new contract when we had just blown a 12 point lead, that's the type of character he is - very blinkered & self promoting. Not for me I'm afraid. If we had held on and finished about the arsenal however I might have been a lot more forgiving ha ha

Interesting theory. I suggest it's all about a bit of balance. I know he has some flaws defensively but for example baines at £15mil + would have been a great signing if he could have been persuaded to come. More exciting than Neville but bags of prem experience so should "gel" quickly.

Yeah we should have bought Andy Carroll,Jordan Henderson,Ashley Young,Stewart Downing and James Milner.......we would really be top of the league now.

And I could as easily name as many foreign players who have flopped; let's hope none of ours turn out to be among them, though I imagine that Soldado is currently giving opposing fans a good laugh.

I've never been a fan of his, he's too much of a philosopher if you understand what I mean. He's the sort of coach who doesn't take into account what sort of player personnel a club has before deciding how they play. He's very limited in this regard and that's why IMO he's bound to struggle here.

The only way he could make this work is if he got in players who'd do so, and that's impossible because he clearly doesn't have the knowledge of the transfer market to get it done. He asked the club to get him someone who could do that and it seemed the guy also got it completely wrong.

We're a powerful side, with strong blokes in midfield, and with pace to burn outwide. We're not some tippy tappy high line side. City knew this and gave us string to hang ourselves with. Look at the city reaction after they scored. They didn't aim to retain the ball and pass it about, they sat back and caught us on the break knowing very well that those are the tactics we foolishly employ week in week out.

We don't have the players for the possession game. Scrap this idea altogether and employ something our players could use. I really hate this whole new nothing that this tippy tappy rubbish is the way forward. Judging by the beatings spain and barca have received recently at the hands of more direct teams I'd say it really isnt.

Avb has to stop putting our defenders on the halfway line causing our forward players to try to work in tight spaces, spaces that they dnt have the ability to work in at the same time utilizing slow as shit defenders.

Needs to get our captain back at centre back

Needs to allow our new signings to bed in by playing them.

Needs to get the whole squad on his side by giving equal opportunities.

Unfortunately if this rubbish continues any longer we're gonna have to get rid because you simply don't spend 100mill to get worse.

Still a fan of Andre, but I think we have individual players of prodigious skill and I'd like to see what a positive manager like Laudrup (or formerly Martinez) could do with them.

Have a look at this article.

Are you saying you don't think an Englishman should want to manage or play for his country? I can not believe anyone can actually say this.

Harry has clearly come out and said he expected to get the England job. If a manager that has just finished 454 is not good enough for you who is? My trouble is I have been supporting spurs since 1973, and I have seen nearly every manager in that period was worse than Harry. I am not pretending he was perfect nor do I think he should come back.his day has come and gone.
