Still a fan of Andre, but I think we have individual players of prodigious skill and I'd like to see what a positive manager like Laudrup (or formerly Martinez) could do with them.
Where are these players with prodigious skill, I remember we sold one last summer.

Jol did okay, until Comolli poisoned his relationship with the board and saddled him with an unbalanced, hopelessly inexperienced squad.

Talking of sporting directors Arnesen's blueprint was buy British if you can, if you can't then buy foreign players who have already adapted to the Premiership, and only buy outside of the Premiership if you absolutely have to. In the past two years we have bought in twelve players, not one of whom was British, and this season we bought in seven not one of whom had played in the Premiership.

Harry got criticised for buying in veterans such as Friedel and Parker, and for wanting the likes of Phil Neville, but I wonder whether we now lack a bit of Premiership nous, and whether Villas-Boas, and in particular Baldini, recognise the importance of that.
I agree completely that Jol did ok, but Levy got him by accident. He was coach under Santini, and stepped up when Santini resigned. That's why I said levy only selected one manager that did any good. He stumbled upon Jol.

Soldado, Lamela, Eriksen, Holtby were all excellent at their previous clubs.

Vertonghen, Lloris, Sandro too.
I don't care how good Lamela was last season, this season he is poor. Same with Soldado and Eriksen. Holtby I don't like much either.

The others are good players but not prodigious, maybe you need to check a dictionary. They are not wonderful/marvellous/extraordinary.

Have a look at this article.

Are you saying you don't think an Englishman should want to manage or play for his country? I can not believe anyone can actually say this.

Harry has clearly come out and said he expected to get the England job. If a manager that has just finished 454 is not good enough for you who is? My trouble is I have been supporting spurs since 1973, and I have seen nearly every manager in that period was worse than Harry. I am not pretending he was perfect nor do I think he should come back.his day has come and gone.

If he was offered the job & decided to accepted it than no but the fa didn't actually want him, he created the entire fiasco with his media buddies at a time when we had already had the distraction of his court case, then blamed levy for him not getting the job due to a buy out clause. Nothing could ever be his fault.
I don't like the way the guy does things and believe respect should be shown to the club that pays your current wages.
Anyway i'm sure this has been covered many times before. He was hired at the right time & fired at the right time. We move on.

Well Lloris is one of the best goal keepers in the world. Same goes for Vertonghen at CB and Sandro at DM. Last season's form absolutely matters, because these players were excellent in big European leagues.

Yes because we play a retarded style of football that makes it impossibly difficult for any attacking players to use the ball in space or create chances. That's why literally 100% of them turn shit when they come here.

And I could as easily name as many foreign players who have flopped; let's hope none of ours turn out to be among them, though I imagine that Soldado is currently giving opposing fans a good laugh.

I don't think there is an awful lot wrong with the majority of our players.......the problem lies with the management.
Seriously Eddie take a look at the current England squad,we are talking shite personified.

Levy picks up Phone:
Ring Ring
Levy : Hi Guus, what you up to at the moment?
Guus: Not much Danny, a bit bored actually.
Levy : Really? Well we might be able to do something about that!
Guus : I'm surprised at how poorly your boys are going actually.
Levy : So name your price Guus!

Much as I have had a go at AVB - Newcastle being the one instance when I crossed the line into totally pissed off with the manager mode - I cant see how calling for his head is going to solve anything.

This is his character test and the players character test. They have to pick themselves up and have a go against Manure.

Its too early to call for sacking.

However, I have to agree that this result was on the cards. We looked poor going forward for weeks. There was no incisiveness, no decisiveness and no team work. Yes we controlled posession but its goals and subsuequently wins that get you the points in the PL. Bore draws and 1-0's at the death are not going to get you there...and when your luck runs out...POW!

My biggest criticsm is his inflexibility. It was obvious that the structure and selections were not working. But he persisted. Then there were the excuses. West Ham was an off day, Newcastle was Tim Krul Mr Superman and Man City...bad luck, twilight zone, bermuda fricken triangle? Who knows!

The players also deserve some criticism and not just the manager. They need to go out there and perform and most of them have not.

However, you have to say that the structure and selections have been fuckin woeful. Lamela looks like he is on fire so...he gets to sit it out against Newcastle. If he had played and carried on with that momentum whose to say what might have happened? Siggy can score the odd goal, so lets put him in the LW spot. He had 11 passes all game against Newcastle for chrissakes....11 fricken passes. What kind of a contribution to the game was that? So you have to blame the manager for the player selection and the team structure because he isnt a bad player. He was a bloody traffic cone vs. Newcastle. I can bet that half those 11 passes were because the ball hit him by accident to start off with.

C'mon AVB, this is your moment of truth. You need to go back to basics. Mould your team around your players skills, strengths and characteristics and retain the better aspects of your structure but dont try and force everyone into playing this insane keep ball because other than the possession statisticians - it aint fooling anyone.

Unfortunately this is 100 % correct. I thought last season AVB had learned from his mistakes at Chelsea. He appeared more flexible using different formations and of course the team's shortcomings were masked by the genius of Bale. This season he stubbornly persists with the same system, insists we are creating numerous chances , that Soldado and Defoe have both been excellent, while everyone else can see the system he is using is not working and is painful to watch. Strange as it may seem I give him some credit for trying what on paper was a more attacking team today , we were undermined by 2 howlers from Lloris and against a team who can counter punch like City it was always going to be an impossible task after that.

Soldado, Lamela, Eriksen, Paulinho , Capoue , Chiriches and Chadli are all good players FFS. They have strengthened our squad as has the return of Townsend and Rose. Add to them Lloris, Vertonghen, Sandro, Dembele, Walker, Kaboul ( though he was very shaky today) , Dawson, Lennon, Sigurdsson, Holtby, Defoe and Adebayor. It's way stronger than our squad last season . Shipping out BAE was a mistake with no cover for Rose.

But AVB has contrived to make good players look bad through a system that is not working. If we are going to play with 1 striker only 1 of our 3 options can play that role and it ain't Soldado or Defoe. I see no reason why we cant play 2 strikers especially since we have no goalscoring number 10 and our wingers Lennon and Townsend dont score either. So it has to be 4-4-2 and we wouldnt be the only team to play 2 strikers. Otherwise a real 4-3-3 and the 3 up front should be Lamela, Adebayor ( or Soldado ) and Chadli. There should be goals in that front 3 just as there should be with Adebayor and Soldado as a front 2.

But in answer to the opening post, if AVB doesnt move away from 4-2-3-1 then yes he should go.

Harry was a selfish, blameless and a bit jammy. Not the kind of manager we need back at the Lane.

This thrashing has to be the wakeup call for AVB that what he either changes his tactic/management style or whatever it is that's lacking. DL will stick with him until end of season, so I am writing this season off as transition.
5th place at best and maybe win the Europa? Pains me to say but not expecting much based on the matches played so far.

I wished we tried harder to keep VDV and secured the services of Suarez or got Berbs (cheap) in to partner Soldado. My two pennies!

The most important post in this thread. Your last line has me concerned. I hope the players haven't tuned out the manager. If they have, Daniel may have to act sooner than he wants to.

I just want to enjoy watching my spurs. That is all really. Yes of course I want to see a winning team but I go to the games firstly to be entertained. It's what spurs is all about.

This is the most boring spurs team I have ever seen!

So for that reason I am saying AVB out now!!!
