Hypothetical situation here, as whilst we all speculate, no-one really knows 100% who at the club chooses which players we sign, but...

If AVB could get just 1 realistic transfer target into our squad in January, who do we think would be the 1 player he would most want???

Keep it realistic. ;)

Someone immense for the project.......preferably alive rather than dead.
Is Sean Goater still alive?

Yeah Moutinho or a Striker who can play up on his own and one of the wide forward roles (Loic Remy need not apply)

I don't think getting Moutinho in January is very realistic, clubs rarely want to sell their best players in January, our last minute negotiating tactics also make it unlikely.

Moutinho obviously

He has a say on who we buy and sell as do others at the club , but the final decision is with Levy

I think points you've made there are a reasonable assumption.

However, as mentioned by Mullers above, do clubs want to release their top players in January, and if so, would be willing to pay the inflated fees? (unless we have some sort of agreement to pay what was agreed in Summer?)

History would suggest not.

Which brings us full circle to a realistic target for January...tricky this!

Moutinho came to mind very quickly, but I can't help but think AVB would love to have another goal scoring wide player who could also play behind Ade, someone like Willian.

Moutinho is the obvious choice. He is the type of player AVB wants and he also adds something to our team that we are lacking.

We could buy a centre-forward but hopefully Ade will have a more effective 2nd half of the season.

Anyone from Brazil as their season ends doesn't it?

Say Leandro... and not Adriano

Realistically makes it difficult, Alan Dzagoev? Plays anywhere accross the attack (except lone striker). Young, decent, strike rate of 1 in 4-ish from middfield (not bad considering his age of 22) and wasn't his contract running down? He's a risk though, though at the possible price, not as much as some.

But i really don't know who Villas Boas's favorates are (beyond Moutinho). He's not quite as obvious as Hazza was

I'd agree that Moutinho is unrealistic. Firstly because of the huge amount of money Porto netted from selling Witzel and Hulk, secondly because of his third-party ownership making any deal with Levy, who is already difficult, tricky, and thirdly because the fee would likely be upwards of £25 million.

Porto did well getting money for Witsel, seeing as he was sold by Benfica...lol

On a serious note, all Porto players are for sale, for the right price. They would operate at a loss if they didn't create revenue through sales, as they pay high wages, and the TV rights in Portugal are chicken feed. They will have also pinpointed about 5 South Americans to fill each position in the squad with their top notch scouting system.

With Scotty coming back, I dont think the middle will be as large a priority as the cover/competition for Bale and Lennon. We cant risk burning those two out so I think Willian if Shaktar dont start to play silly buggers about the price considering that his contract is up next year.

Shakhtar won't sell in Jan though. They believe they have a serious shot at the CL.

If we did sign Moutinho (unlikely though), Mousa could be Bale/Lennon cover as he is more than capable of playing anywhere in midfield and the 3 roles behind the striker.

And lose him for nothing when they get knocked out of the CL and he runs down his contract?! They wont win and they know it, they are just posturing so that they can get as much as possible for him.

(I hope):nailbiting:
