I've been watching him for a while now... I was incredibly impressed with him at West Ham and was very surprised there wasn't more fuss about him then. As ever it seems some players are trendy to like while others slip under the radar.

In my opinion this guy is one of those who for some bizarre reason isn't getting shouted about nearly as much as he should be, probably because he's not moved clubs for daft sums of money and isn't English. His first touch, movement and finishing are all of the highest order and in a world where we can't afford the hyped players, (Llorrente, Aguero, Hulk, Falcao, Damio etc) this guy would seem an excellent signing and would be a great backup for Ade.

I want him.

How long is his contract? Would hate to pay £10m+ for a striker with dodgy knees we could have got on a free in the summer

Ticking time bomb, son, ticking time bomb! [/pulis]

I'd much rather be playing against Crouch than Ba today, anyway.

Wished we got him only RVP and Rooney have scored more premiership goals this year and I wished I hadn't transferred him out of my FF side when he missed the start.
Onwards and upwards now i hope.

Great goalscoring prowess, but he's not a replacement for Ade, because he doesn't contribute to link up, hold up, and possession nearly as much Ade does. In terms of role Ba is more like a Hernandez.

I have a chart comparing a whole host of stats for possible striker signings, I'll put up it later after I get the stats for this week. :)

Love how everyone says dodgy knees yet you all have no infomation of how good/bad the medical team at hoffeinheim were. If we can manage Ledleys knees this guy would be a piece of piss.

He is a really elegant striker. Both his goals yesterday were top class (gah, get out of my head Redknapp!). He is a fantastic finisher with good movement and a delightful first touch.

I don't, however, think that when looking for back-ups for Adebayor our primary targets should be in form premier league strikers with documented knee problems. It would be an expensive and risky signing.

...When exactly has dodgy knees stopped players playing for Spurs???

If ever there was a moneyball player, this guy is surely it, his stats are ludicrous. 18 goals in 26 games in the prem this year... 18 in 26!!! Eek

There has be a reason why a player that has done that well hasn't been picked up by a team better than West Ham and Newcastle.

Would it? Really? I don't think it's any more risky than say signing Llorrente and he would cost a hell of a lot more.

What's hugely impressive is he's stuck a shed load of goals in for two different clubs. Stats aside I honestly think he's the real deal just by watching how he plays. If he was at say Man United he'd have a 30 mill price tag easy.

Scott Parker went to Chelsea and failed. Then took the money route of Newcastle and West Ham. Both times it is believed that we were interested but he choose to follow the money.

That being said I am delighted he is at the club now and playing very well.

Every player is one tackle away from being injured for a long time, nothing suggests to me his knees are that bad? Kings are obviously much worse, although im not advocating buying him now as he'd probably cost a fair bit from newcastle. But, he has been here for a year now, he's young, and has scored lots of goals in what we would consider to be a cold climate. Time will only tell of course, but his knees are obviously not shagged

That's all thoroughly speculative... Point still stands and to be fair you're kind of proving it regarding Ba. For whatever the reason certain players are overlooked and not terribly trendy to like. Ba is one of them, as was Parker, these are the type of players we should be looking at as we can't compete with the big guns wages why but we're already proving this doesn't mean we can't compete on the pitch... I've been converted to moneyball thinking and I'm convinced Ba is a diamond in the rough who could play at the highest level.

No point signing him if we are going to play in Europe. Every week he will say "I ain't gettin' on no plane" and we will have to drug him with a poisoned hamburger.

Llorrente would also be a risky signing, due to what we would have to pay (as you rightly point out). The kind of signing we might consider if we fail to work out a way to bring in Adebayor on a permanent deal.

Ba is a risky signing because buying one of the league's in form players adds a couple of millions to the price (Carroll) and because he could possibly be a "time bomb".

I think all of us pretty much agree on both the merits and risks of buying Ba. Lovely player though.

I said in the summer that we should get Ba for very little outlay.
Absolute no brainer,we were effectively getting a better Darren Bent for peanuts.
Can play up front on his own, could have filled in for Adebayor and we could have sold both Pav and Gio.
With Ba up front in the Europa league,we would have already qualified for the next round and he would have earned his transfer fee.
