Good point, it's probably the same kind of system that Spain have with Argentinians, kind of like an inbuilt leniency on entry requirements for former colonies

Yeah, that and they're not apprehensive when it comes to picking up players who are owned by third parties. It also makes them a right fucker to deal with when you want to buy off them.

DoF will not help if we are not ready to take risks with unknown talent and are not willing to pay market price for established star performers.

Shouldn't we actually look at the Porto DoF?

Signs amazing yet unknown South Americans, hired and has a working relationship with our head coach
We enquired into him but the deal to bring him to the club was scuppered by his third party ownership, go figure

In all seriousness a lot of the signings he makes may not work as well for us as they do in Iberia - less cultural and climate adjustment required for young talent and also less issues with ownership (3rd party legalities) and work permits etc

Yes I see what you mean players like Radamel Falcao, James Rodriguez and Jackson Martinez would all struggle with the climate !

Seriously, how anyone could suggest that Antero Henrique isn't the best man for the DoF role given his record at Porto is staggering to me. Can we get him from Porto is really the question, if we can it is a no brainer.

I'm saying as youngsters their development may well have been aided by coming to a country that was less of a drastic change from their home land

Not to mention the fact that it's easier to sign them for Porto in the first place without the Work permit or third party ownership restrictions

I think there is no doubt that we need a DoF of some sort to help with player recruitment and coordinating the move between youth teams and the first team. But he's not going to replace the committee system we have now; he would end up plugging into it. Because at the end of the day, this is going to be Levy's club, and he enjoys being involved way too much to pass that on to anybody.

Now whether or not this man is the right choice is another question. I don't know enough about him to really comment there.

No DOF or whatever the term is will change the fact Levy has the final say.

Cynics will say it's a disguise for the money men to dictate the players coming in.

Spurs have tried to get C L on the cheap, and they had a bit of success with that. Had they invested wisely, we would have been looking at possibly 4 straight seasons of CL. A weakened Arsenal would have been eating our shit.

Recent evidence: Saha and Nelsen Jan 2012; Adebayor and Dempsey Aug 2012(Both needed to be here by end of July)

I'm all for the role being brought in, providing its what AVB is happy with it and its a man he wants to work with!

Baldini has an impressive CV

Agreed, but past experience has shown Levy is prepared to trust someone to pick out the unknown talent - Arnesen.
Don't tell me Levy knew all about Timothy Atouba when he signed him.
As for paying market price for established stars, we didn't seem to haggle much with the Dembele transfer.
I agree we will continue to struggle to buy anyone bigger (true international stars at their peak), because, until we have a bigger stadium, we don't have the finances.
If Levy & AVB both trust Baldini, then he's the man for us. If not, move on till we get that man.

More talk of AVB confirming he wants a technical director

http://www1.skysports.com/football/news/11095/8719241/?

Tottenham boss Andre Villas-Boas is hoping the arrival of a technical director at White Hart Lane next season will help move the club forward.
http://www1.skysports.com/football/news/11095/8719241/?

The Spaniard, who will be hoping to end his first full season in charge in the Premier League by sneaking Spurs in to the top-four, became used to working under a director while working in Italy and Portugal.
And working with someone who deals with off the pitch issues, including player recruitment, leaving Villas-Boas to concentrate on managing the squad, is something the boss feels will benefit the north London side.
"We have been outlining the route ahead for what we want to do in terms of the club structure," the Spurs manager said.
"Hopefully (there will be) the arrival of somebody else in the structure for the recruitment side, a technical director.
"It is a position I am used to working with and ideally it is someone that will help us to move forward."
Fans may be doubtful, however, when reminded by the fractious relationship ex-manager Martin Jol endured with former director of football Damien Comolli.
But Villas-Boas said: "It's not fundamental, but it will help the club moving forward.
"It's something that I am used to working with. A number of experiences that we had with Jose (Mourinho) at Inter Milan with (Marco) Branca which was always positive.
"Not only me as a manager but when I was with him so I think it's something that works. Since the first day I told the club that it's somebody who is extremely important in my view to the structure of the club."

If AVB wants someone and we're looking, that means it certainly isn't Sherwood.

Come home Pleaty all is forgiven!

Posturing from AVB?

Few quotes recently about how we should keep Bale, endeavour to spend regardless of 4th or 5th, now this...

He's been quite open with how he thinks the club should conduct business, yet he's still 'just the head coach'...

We know Levy can be tricksy with his managers, I just wonder if Villas Boas is trying to get his message across...
